Mounting the PIR with the bracket (see Figure 2)
1 UseshortPhillipsheadscrewstoscrewpartAintopartB.
2 Selecteitherthecornermount(partC)orflatwallmount(partD).
3 Mounttheselectedbracket(CorD)ataheightof7.5ft(2.3m).on
thewallusingthesuppliedlongscrewswithanchors.
4 PlacetheassemblyofpartsAandBontheshaftofbracketCorD.
5 ScrewaPhillipsheadscrewwithwasherintothetopofparBtohold
theassemblytotheshaftofbracketCorD.
6 AttachthemainbodyofthePIRtothemountedbackwithascrewat
thebottomofthecase.
Mounting the PIR without bracket (see Figure 3)
1 Forcornermountingusethesuppliedlongscrewswithanchorsand
mountthePIRcasebackusingeithertherighttwocornermount
screwholes(A)orthelefttwocornermountscrewholesandmount
thePIRbackataheightof7.5ft.(2.3m).Attachthemainbodyofthe
PIRtothemo
untedbackwiththescrewatthebottomofthePIR.
2FormountingthePIRonaflatwallusethe
suppliedlongscrewswithanchorsandmount
thePIRcasebackusingthe2wallmountscrew
holesinthecenterofthebackandmountthe
backataheightof7.5ft.(2.3m).Attachthe
mainbodyofthePI
Rtothemountedbackwith
thescrewatthebottomofthe PIR.
Using the PIR with Pets
Totakefulladvantageofthepetimmunityfeatures,dothefollowing:
1 EnsurethatthePIRismounted7.58feetabovefloorlevel.
2 Settherightjumper(SENSITIVITY)tolow(default).
3 Ensurethattheleftjumper(PETIMMUNITY)issettoyourpets
weight.
4 DonotaimthePIRatstairsorfurniturethatyourpetcouldclimbon.
NOTE: ThePIRprovidesimmunitytofalsealarmsforanindividual
animaloragroupofanimalswhosetotalweightisequaltoorless
than55poundswhentheroomtemperatureisabove50°Fand
below90°F.Ifyouusedtheoptionalmountingbracket,ensurethat
thePIRismountedwithNOtilt.
Environmental and other Useful Information
WhilethePIRisahighlyreliableintrusiondetectiondevice,itdoesnot
guaranteeagainstburglary.Anyintrusiondeviceissubjecttocompromiseof
failuretowarnforavarietyofreasons.Considerthefollowingwheninstalling
thePIRforthefirsttimeorwhenyouaretroubleshooting:

ThisPIRhasbuiltinprotection,thatkeepsbugsfromgettingintothe
sensorareaandcausingfalsealarms.Thisdoesnotpreventinsects
fromcrawlingacrossthelensofthePIR,whichcouldtriggerthePIR.
2 Infraredenergycanbereflectedoffanyglossysurfacessuchas
mirrors,windows,floorsorcountertopswithglossyfinish,andslick
finishedconcrete.Somesurfacesreflectlessthanothers.For
example,thePIRcanseeachangeininfraredenergyoffofreflective
surfaceseveniftheheatorcoldsour
ceisnotwithinthePIRdetection
pattern.
3 Windowscannotonlyreflectinfraredenergy,buttheycanalsoallow
sunlightorlightsfromcarstopassthroughtothePIR.Forexample,a
PIRcandetectaquickchangeininfraredenergyifsunlightcomes
throughawindowandshinesonahardwoodfloor.Ifthechangein
infraredener
gyisquickenoughonthehardwoodfloor,thePIRcan
triggeranalarm.ThesameappliesifthePIRareaincludesawindow,
eventhoughthepatternofprotectioncannot“see”throughglass.

4 Heatingandairconditioningductsarealsoimportantbecauseifthey
blowairontoanobjectwithinthefieldofthePIR’sview,the
temperatureofthatobjectcouldchangequicklyenoughforthe
detectortosee”achangeininfraredenergy.PIR’sCANNO Tseeair
current,onlythechangeinte
mperatureofaphysicalobject.
5 ThePIRsenseschangeintemperature;however,astheambient
temperatureoftheprotectedareaapproachesthetemperature
rangeof95°to120°F,thedetectionperformanceofthePIR
decreases.
6 EnsurethattheareayouwishthePIRtocoverisfreeofobstructions
(curtains,screens,plants,etc.)thatmayblockthepatternof
coverage.
7 Anythingthatcansw ayormoveduetoaircurrentcancauseachange
ininfraredenergywithinthefieldsofview.Draftsfromdoorsor
windowscancausethistohappen.Plants,balloons,curtainsand
hangingbasketsshouldneverbeleftinthePIR’sfieldofview.
8 DonotmountthePIRonasurfacethatallowsforanyvibration.
VibrationsnotonlycausethePIRtomovealittle,butitalsocauses
thefieldsofviewinaroomtomovewithrespectthePIR.Alittle
vibrationcancausehavocwiththePIR’sfieldofview
,thusthePIR
mayseeachangeinenergyandtriggerthealarm.
9 Aninstallationoftenrequiresthatth ePIRisaimedatthedoor.The
PIRmaydetectdoormovementbeforethedoorcontactcaninitiate
anentrydelay,causingthealarmtotrigger.IfyouinstallthePIR
facingadoor,thenwhileprogrammingthePIR,chooseanentrydelay.
10 ThePIRONLYdetectsintrusionwithinthepatternofcoverage.
11 ThePIRdoesnotprovidevolumetricareaprotection.
12 ThePIRcreatesmultiplebeamsofprotection.Intrusioncanonlybe
detectedinunobstructedareascoveredbythosebeams.
13 ThePIRcannotdetectmotionorintrusionthatoccursbehindwalls,
ceilings,floors,closeddoors,partitions,glassdoorsorwindows.
14 Tamperingwith,masking,painting,orsprayingofanymaterialonthe
PIRlensoranypartoftheopticalsystemcanimpairdetectionability.
15 ThePIR,likeotherelectricaldevices,aresubjecttocomponent
failure.EventhoughthePIR2isdesignedtolastaslongas10years,
theelectroniccomponentsaresubjecttofailure.
