People who remove materials from libraries without
authorization are much like your average patron. Li-
brary materials are usually placed within book bags,
briefcases or concealed under clothing. 3M detection
systems have been designed to detect the unauthorized
removal of materials concealed in this manner. While
a 100% electronic net does not exist, the 3M system
