Operation principle
The ACS580-01 is a drive for controlling asynchronous AC induction motors,
permanent magnet motors and synchronous reluctance motors (SynRM).
The figure below shows the simplified main circuit diagram of the drive.

Inverter. Converts direct current and voltage to alternating current and voltage.3
Built-in brake chopper (R-, R+) in frames R1…R3. Conducts the surplus energy
from the intermediate DC circuit of the drive to the brake resistor when necessary.
The chopper operates when the DC link voltage exceeds a certain maximum limit.
The voltage rise is typically caused by deceleration (braking) of a high inertia
motor. The user obtains and installs the brake resistor when needed.

Layout
Frames R1…R2
The layout of a frame R1 drive is presented below. The main structure of frame R2
is similar to R1. IP55 / UL Type 12 frames are also slightly different from IP21 /
UL Type 1 frames, for example, IP21 / UL Type 1 front cover has two parts while
IP55 / UL Type 12 front cover only has one part.
