100 Operation
To connect the control unit to a PC
Use the USB connector of the control unit to connect it to a PC:
1. Open the first cover (refer to First cover on
page 50).
2. Open the USB connector lid (refer to User
interface on page 88).
3. Connect a USB cable to the USB connector
of the control unit.
4. Connect the USB cable to a PC.
The control unit shows the USB connection view. In this mode, the control unit does
not respond to its keys. You can use the inverter and control unit only with the PC.
To connect the ABB PC tool to the inverter
You can use the control unit to connect the ABB PC tool to the inverter. When you use
the control unit in this way, you can access the inverter only from the PC tool.
1. Install the ABB PC tool on to the PC.
2. Connect the control unit to the inverter.
3. Connect the control unit to the PC (refer to To connect the control unit to a PC on
page 100).
4. If Windows prompts you to install USB drivers, refer to Drive composer user's
manual (3AUA0000094606 [English]).
To move files between the control unit and a PC
1. Connect the control unit to the PC (refer to To connect the control unit to a PC on
page 100).
2. If Windows prompts you to install USB drivers, refer to Drive composer user's
manual (3AUA0000094606 [English]).
The control panel appears as an MTP device in Windows Explorer.
3. Open the ABB Drives Assistant control panel in Windows Explorer, and go to the
directory where the files are stored:
Screenshots are stored in: ABB Drives Assistant control panel\ABB Drives
Assistant control panel_a\screen
Backup files are stored in: ABB Drives Assistant control panel\ABB Drives
Assistant control panel_a\backup
4. Copy files to and from the folders with Windows Explorer.
