2. Summary
2.1 Introduction
The instructions in this publication refer to UniGear
500R medium voltage switchgear with removable
circuit-breaker. For correct use of the apparatus,
please read the manual carefully.
Thanks to the advanced design of ABB switchgear,
UniGear 500R is suitable not only for a high number of
applications, but also for further technical and
constructional modifications to satisfy any installation
requirements.
Consequently, the manual may not contain some
instructions concerning special customer apparatus
configurations. In the case of special configurations it
is therefore strongly recommended to consult both this
manual and the latest technical documentation (circuit
and wiring diagrams, foundation plans and any
protection selectivity studies).
2.2 General
UniGear 500R is a further improvement of medium
voltage switchgear for primary distribution that will
complete the well-known series of the UniGear ZS1
product family, which includes: UniGear ZS1 (single
level, double level and double busbar), UniGear 550
and UniGear MCC and with which the new panel is
connectable (IEC version only).
This product is an internal arc proof switchgear
dedicated to medium voltage distribution up to 17.5
kV. The units of the switchgear are assembled and
tested in the factory, and they have also undergone
the type test according to IEC and ENA international
standard.
The switchgear is available in two different versions:
A) IEC version:
Electrical characteristics: 17.5 kV, 630 / 1250 /
2000 A, 31.5 kA
Reference standards: IEC 62271-200, IEC 62271-
102 and IEC 62271-100 Depth: 1320 mm
Exit of the gases, generated by an internal arc
fault, through the main gas duct located in the top
part of the panel. Internal arc clasification IAC
AFLR
IP degree: 4X (enclosure), 2X (partitions between
compartments)
B) ENA version:
Electrical characteristics: 12 kV, 630 / 1250 / 2000
A, 25 kA
Reference standards: ENATS 41-36, IEC 62271-
200, IEC 62271-102 and IEC 62271-100
Depth: 1140 mm (bottom entry) / 1471 mm (top
entry)
Exit of the gases, generated by an internal arc
fault, through rear flaps. Internal arc clasification
is IAC AF
IP degree: 3X (enclosure), 2X (partitions between
compartments)
It is recommended that only original parts are used for
maintenance interventions. For further information
please refer to technical catalogue no. 1VCP0000285.
2.3 Standards and specifications
UniGear 500R switchgear comply with the standards
and specifications for factory-assembled, metal-
enclosed and type tested high voltage switchgear
according to IEC publications 62271-200 and ENATS
41-36.
All other corresponding IEC publications, national or
local safety at work regulations and safety regulations
for production materials must be followed during
erection and operation of these systems. Furthermore,
the order-related data from ABB must be taken into
account.
