Overview

The provided document is an assembly instruction manual for an Absco Space Saver Shed, model 30152SK. This shed is designed for general storage purposes, particularly for garden equipment.

Function Description

The Absco Space Saver Shed, model 30152SK, is a steel outdoor storage unit designed for non-cyclonic areas with a wind rating of N2 as per AS4055-2012. Its primary function is to provide secure and weather-resistant storage for various items, such as lawnmowers, wheelbarrows, and garden tools. The shed features a skillion roof design and is constructed using high-quality Australian-made steel. The assembly system, known as "Snaptite," is designed to simplify the construction process by locking end channels to roof and wall sheets without requiring additional tools or fasteners for these specific connections.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Model: 30152SK
  • Dimensions:
    • Width (W): 3.00m
    • Depth (D): 1.52m
    • Height (H): 1.80m (front) / 2.08m (rear) - Implied by the skillion roof and the diagram on page 1.
  • Material: High-quality Australian-made steel.
  • Wind Rating: N2 (Non-Cyclonic) as per AS4055-2012.
  • Foundation: Requires erection on a reinforced concrete slab with a rebated edge (25mm deep around the perimeter) to assist with water egress.
  • Structural Components:
    • Steelwork: All structural steelwork has a corrosion protection system consistent with AS/NZS 2312-2002.
    • Grade: Minimum Grade 550 for roll-formed sections (roof and wall sheeting) and Grade 250 for angle sections.
    • Sheet Thickness:
      • Roof and wall sheeting: Minimum 0.3mm base metal thickness.
      • Snaptite channels and jambs: Minimum 0.42mm base metal thickness.
      • Top hats: Minimum 1.0mm base metal thickness.
    • Fasteners:
      • Screw fasteners: Phil Pan Head Zinc Plated #8 x 3/4" (STP0820).
      • Bolt fasteners for anchoring: M10 minimum grade 4.6/S.
  • Loads (AS/NZS1170, Class 10a, Type 2 structure):
    • Roof Live Load: 0.25 kPa uniformly distributed or 1.1 kN concentrated.
    • Wind Load (Vu = 40 m/s, Vs = 26 m/s):
      • Windward wall Cpe = 0.7
      • Leeward wall Cp,e = -0.3 to -0.5 (as applicable based on shed geometry)
      • Side wall Cp,e = -0.5 to -0.65 (as applicable based on shed geometry)
      • Roof Cp,e = -0.5 to -1.3 (depending on wind direction)
  • Anchoring: Requires 15 concrete anchors (M10 dynabolt, M10 4.6/S bolt and nut, 35x35x3 steel angle) to secure the shed to the concrete slab. A 10mm hole must be drilled into both the wall sheet and the concrete for each anchor.
  • Door: Includes components for a single door assembly with a padbolt connection. The two holes for the padbolt hasp are not pre-punched to allow for proper alignment during installation.

Usage Features

  • Snaptite Assembly System: This patented system is highlighted as the "World's Easiest Assembly System," designed to simplify construction by allowing end channels to lock onto roof and wall sheets without the need for screws or other fasteners for these specific connections. Channels are gently tapped over Snaptite lugs on the sheet until flush.
  • Two-Person Lift Warning: The manual explicitly states that the product requires a two-person lift (indicated by a 40kg+ symbol) and advises using proper lifting techniques, emphasizing safety during handling.
  • Recommended Tools: A 3mm drill bit, 10mm drill bit (metal/masonry), hammer, and safety glasses are recommended. Gloves and sensible shoes are also strongly advised for safety.
  • Assembly App: An "Absco Sheds Assembly App" is available for download on the App Store and Google Play, providing instructional videos to assist with the assembly process.
  • Spliced Channels: The manual provides detailed instructions on how to join spliced channels using channel joiners (CSJ), including visual guides and steps for drilling and securing.
  • Door Panel Assembly: Vertical door channels are installed in the opposite orientation compared to horizontal door channels. The padbolt hasp requires drilling 3mm holes for proper alignment. Nuts and bolts can be used instead of pop rivets for hinges by drilling out 4mm holes.
  • Weather Resistance: Designed to be weatherproof for normal weather conditions. However, in extreme weather (heavy rain, high wind gusts), minor deformations may occur, potentially allowing some water entry.
  • Storage Guidelines: Absco Sheds are primarily for garden equipment. For items sensitive to moisture or condensation, additional protection (e.g., plastic sheets, timber slats) is recommended.

Maintenance Features

  • Corrosion Protection: All structural steelwork is treated with a corrosion protection system, contributing to the shed's longevity. The steel coating is warranted against rust, cracking, flaking, peeling, or blistering for 30 years when installed within Australia.
  • Regular Checks: Users are advised to regularly check ridge capping, sheeting joins, and screw fixings to ensure maximum strength and protection, especially after extreme weather events.
  • Waterproof Sealants: Waterproof sealants (silicone) can be used around joins and screw fixings for additional protection. Rubber door seals are also available. However, sealing between the base of the shed and the concrete slab is not recommended, as it can trap water.
  • Warranty: A 30-year warranty against defects in the steel coating is provided, covering normal domestic use and installation according to instructions. The warranty requires proof of purchase and photographic evidence for claims. It does not cover damage from storms, wind, rain, snow, poor foundations, surface deterioration from "Swarf," or installation in severe coastal/industrial environments. Fasteners are also excluded from the warranty.
  • Warranty Registration: Customers are encouraged to register their warranty within 30 days of purchase via the Absco website.
