OPERATION AND
BATTERY REPLACEMENT
3. Product Information
The ACR ResQFlare is a portable Electronic Distress
Flare and is also a certied Night Visual Distress Signal
as per its compliance with U.S. Coast Guard 161.013
requirements. When purchased, the ResQFlare is supplied
with a Daytime Distress Flag that is a certied Day Visual
Distress Signal as per its compliance with U.S. Coast
Guard 160.072 requirements. When carried together on
a vessel, the ResQFlare and the ACR Distress Flag can
be carried in lieu of traditional pyrotechnic ares while still
meeting U.S. Coast Guard requirements (33 CFR Part
175) for carriage of approved visual distress signals for
day and night use.
The ash sequence emitted by the light represents the
International Morse Code for S-O-S and once powered
on, the ResQFlare operates continuously for a minimum
of 20 hours at a light intensity over 75 candelas. This
operational life ( >= 20 hours ) is over three times longer
than is required by U.S. Coast Guard requirements (46
CFR 161.013) for the light to operate at a light intensity of
75 candelas.
1. Operation
The ResQFlare is switched on manually by twisting the top
portion of the light clockwise to align the “ON” marking on the
rear label with the marking on the bottom portion of the light.
2. Replacing Batteries
When opening the light to insert or remove batteries (2 x C Cell
Alkaline Not Included), align the “PUSH TO OPEN” marking
on the rear label with the marking on the bottom portion of the
light. This is achieved by pushing the top portion of the light
down and, at the same time while keeping the top and bottom
portions of the light held together, twisting the top portion
counterclockwise. Insert batteries in the battery tube with the
positive terminal of both batteries facing upward toward the “+”
symbol seen at the top of the battery tube.
NOTE: It is important to only use
Alkaline C Cell batteries. Use of
C Cell batteries with a different
chemistry (eg. Lithium or Carbon
Zinc) may cause the ResQFlare
to no longer oat upright, or to not
function at all.
After installing batteries, align the marking on the bottom portion
of the light with the “PUSH TO OPEN” marking on the top
portion of the light. Then push the upper and bottom portions
of the light together, and while keeping the two portions of the
light held together, twist the top portion of the light clockwise
to align the marking on the bottom portion of the light with the
“OFF” marking on the top portion of the light. NOTE: To ensure
continued waterproof performance, users should conrm that
the black waterproof rubber o-ring is not missing or misplaced
during the battery replacement process (this o-ring is not visible
until the top and bottom portions of the light are separated).
4. Maintenence
If a light has been in operation for 7 hours or greater, the
batteries should be replaced before next use. Additionally,
regardless of product usage or not, batteries should be
changed annually.
