12.Move RED test lead to secondary
ignition coil terminal.
Refer to vehicle service manual for
location of secondary ignition coil
terminal.
Verify BLACK test lead is con-
nected to primary ignition coil nega-
tive (-) terminal.
13.View reading on display.
14.If vehicle is DIS, repeat Steps 12
and 13 for remaining ignition coils.
15.Test Results - Secondary Coil
Typical resistance range of sec-
ondary ignition coils is 6.0 - 30.0K.
Refer to vehicle service manual for
your vehicles resistance range.
16.Repeat test procedure for a HOT
ignition coil.
NOTE: It is a good idea to test
ignition coils when they are both hot
and cold, because the resistance of
the coil could change with tempera-
ture. This will also help in diagnosing
intermittent ignition system prob-
lems.
17.Test Results - Overall
Good Ignition Coil:
Resistance read-
ings in Steps 10, 15 and 16 were
within manufacturers specification.
Bad Ignition Coil:
Resistance read-
ings in Steps 10, 15 and 16 are not
within manufacturers specification.
