Do you have a question about the Acuity Brands sensorswitch SFR Series and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

This document outlines the programming instructions and function definitions for an Occupancy Sensor, likely manufactured by SensorSwitch, an AcuityBrands Company. The sensor is designed to control lighting based on occupancy detection, offering various customizable settings to optimize energy efficiency and lamp life.

Function Description:

The core function of the occupancy sensor is to automatically turn lights on when occupancy is detected and keep them on for a specified duration after the last detection. This duration is controlled by the "Occupancy Time Delay" setting. To prevent frequent on/off cycling that can shorten lamp life, the sensor also incorporates a "Minimum On Time" feature, ensuring that lamps remain on for a set period once activated, even if the occupancy time delay expires sooner.

Beyond basic occupancy detection, the sensor includes specialized modes for installation and maintenance:

  • Test Mode: This mode is designed for quick verification of sensor operation during installation. It disables the "Minimum On Time" and sets the "Occupancy Time Delay" to a short 30 seconds. This allows installers to quickly test the sensor's response to motion without waiting for long delays. The Test Mode automatically expires after 10 minutes or can be manually exited by setting function 4 back to "Normal."
  • 100 Hour Burn-In: This mode is typically used for lamp seasoning, especially with new fluorescent lamps that benefit from an initial burn-in period. When enabled, it overrides the relay to keep the lights on continuously for the first 100 hours of powered operation. During this mode, the LED blinks continuously to indicate its active status.
  • Auto Set-Point: While not explicitly detailed as a separate function, the "100 Hour Burn-In / Auto Set-Point" function (Function 4) suggests that the sensor may have an automatic calibration or setting feature related to its initial operation or environmental conditions, though the document primarily focuses on the burn-in aspect.

Usage Features:

Programming the sensor involves a straightforward, button-press sequence:

  1. Select Function: Press the programming button a specific number of times corresponding to the desired function (e.g., twice for Occupancy Time Delay).
  2. Read Current Setting: The sensor will then indicate its current setting for that function by flashing its LED a certain number of times (e.g., five flashes for 10 minutes). This sequence repeats three times.
  3. Change Setting: To change the setting, interrupt the LED flash sequence by pressing the button the number of times corresponding to the new desired setting for that specific function.
  4. Confirmation: The sensor will then flash the new setting as confirmation three times.
  5. Exit Programming: After confirming the new setting, the sensor automatically exits programming mode, and the LED reverts to flashing only when occupancy is detected.

To exit programming mode without saving changes or to switch to a different function, users can simply wait for the blink-back sequence to repeat three times, then return to step 1 to select a new function or let the sensor time out.

Important Technical Specifications / Settings:

The detailed function tables provide specific configurable settings for each function:

= Time Delay (Occupancy Time Delay):

This setting determines how long the lights remain on after the last detected occupancy.

  • 1: 30 sec
  • 2: 2.5 min
  • 3: 5.0 min
  • 4: 7.5 min
  • 5: 10.0 min (Default Setting)
  • 6: 12.5 min
  • 7: 15.0 min
  • 8: 17.5 min
  • 9: 20.0 min

= Test Mode / 100 hr Burn-In / Auto Set-Point:

This function controls special operational modes.

  • 1: Normal (Default Setting) - Standard operation.
  • 2: Run 100 hr Burn-In - Activates the 100-hour lamp seasoning mode.
  • 6: Test Mode - Activates the installation test mode (disables Minimum On Time, sets Occupancy Time Delay to 30 sec, expires after 10 min or if set back to Normal).

= Minimum On Time:

This setting ensures lamps stay on for a minimum duration to prevent short cycling and extend lamp life.

  • 1: 0 min (No minimum on time)
  • 2: 15 min (Default Setting)
  • 3: 30 min
  • 4: 45 min
  • 5: 60 min

Maintenance Features:

The document does not explicitly detail "maintenance features" in the traditional sense (e.g., cleaning instructions). However, the "Test Mode" and "100 Hour Burn-In" can be considered features that aid in the initial setup and ongoing health of the lighting system, indirectly contributing to maintenance by ensuring proper operation and extending lamp life. The programming interface itself is a maintenance feature, allowing for easy adjustment of settings without requiring specialized tools or complex procedures.
