(config)#snmp-server security-to-group model [v1|v2c] name [public |private]
group [default_ro_group|default_rw_group]
model v1 Specifies the v1 security model
model v2 Specifies the v2 security model
name public Specifies the default security user name established for the RO community
name private Specifies the default security user name established for the RW community
group default_ro_group Specifies the default group name established for the RO group
group default_rw_group Specifies the default group name established for the RW group
Step 4: Enable the Read and Write Community
The read and write communities are disabled by default for network safety purposes. Enter the following
commands to enable each community:
(config)#snmp-server community readcommunity enable
(config)#snmp-server community writecommunity enable
Configuring SNMP Using v3
The following steps detail the CLI commands used to enable SNMP management on the NetVanta 1570 for
SNMPv3:
Step 1: Enable SNMP on the ASE Device on page 11
Step 2: Create SNMP Users on page 11
Step 3: Configure a SNMP Group on page 12
Step 4: Configure SNMP MIB Views on page 12
Step 5: Configure Access to SNMP Information on page 13
Step 6: Configure Community and Source IP Addresses on page 14
To begin configuring SNMP in the ASE device using the CLI, connect to the ASE CLI and follow the steps
outlined in the following sections.
Step 1: Enable SNMP on the ASE Device
Use the snmp-server command to enable the SNMP engine on the NetVanta 1570:
(config)#snmp-server
Step 2: Create SNMP Users
Use the snmp-server user command to add a user to the SNMP system and optionally associate a security
level to the user and configure security keys.

Even though the authentication and encryption fields are optional, Adtran recommends speci-
fying authentication and privacy passwords for optimal security.
