The hedge trimmer is equipped with a front handle, rear handle, blades, and a blade cover for protection. It features a battery compartment, a lock-out button, and a trigger for operation.

Starting and Stopping the Device:

To start the hedge trimmer, first ensure the battery is properly inserted and clicked into place. Then, press the lock-out button and simultaneously squeeze the trigger. To stop, release the trigger and the lock-out button. The device should be carried by the handle with the cutter blade stopped, and the cutting device cover should always be fitted when transporting or storing.

Safety Features and Warnings:

  • Personal Safety: Always wear eye protection, hearing protection, and appropriate head protection if there's a risk of falling objects. Secure long hair above shoulder level to prevent entanglement. Do not operate the tool when tired, ill, or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication. Maintain firm footing and balance, avoiding overreaching.
  • Work Area Safety: Keep the work area clean, well-lit, and clear of children and bystanders (at least 15m away). Remove all objects like cords, lights, wires, or strings that could become entangled. Check the hedge for foreign objects like wire fences. Do not use near posts, fences, buildings, or other immovable objects.
  • Blade Safety: The blades are extremely sharp. Keep all body parts away from the cutter blade. Do not remove cut material or hold material to be cut when blades are moving. Ensure the switch is off when clearing jammed materials. Always wear non-slip, heavy-duty protective gloves when handling the blade assembly. Never place hands or fingers between blades or in any position where they could get pinched or cut. Do not touch the blade or service the product unless the battery pack is removed.
  • Battery Safety: Use only specifically designated battery packs and chargers. Recharge only with the charger specified by the manufacturer. Keep battery packs away from other metal objects to prevent shorting, which can cause burns or fire. In case of liquid ejection from the battery, avoid contact; if contact occurs, flush with water and seek medical help if liquid contacts eyes.
  • Operation: Do not force the product through heavy shrubbery; reduce pace if blades slow down. Do not attempt to cut stems or twigs larger than 28 mm; use a non-powered hand saw or pruning saw for larger stems.
  • Vibration: Prolonged use of handheld tools may contribute to Raynaud's Syndrome. Measures to reduce effects include keeping warm, wearing gloves, exercising, and taking frequent work breaks. Discontinue use and consult a doctor if symptoms occur.
  • Abnormal Operation: If the product is dropped, suffers heavy impact, or vibrates abnormally, stop immediately, inspect for damage, and identify the cause of vibration. Any damage should be repaired or replaced by an authorised service centre.

Maintenance Features:

  • General Maintenance: Check all nuts, bolts, and screws frequently for proper tightness. Any damaged parts should be repaired or replaced by an authorised service centre.
  • Cleaning: After each use, clean the body and handles with a soft, dry cloth. Clean debris from the blades with a stiff brush and apply a rust preventative lubricant before refitting the blade protector. The manufacturer recommends a spray product for even distribution and to reduce the risk of personal injury from contact with the blades.
  • Blade Care: Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
  • Servicing: Servicing requires extreme care and knowledge and should be performed only by a qualified service technician. Use only original manufacturer's replacement parts, accessories, and attachments. Failure to do so can cause possible injury, poor performance, and may void the warranty.
  • Before Maintenance: Always remove the battery pack before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools.

Transportation and Storage:

  • Before Storage/Transport: Stop the product, remove the battery, and allow it to cool. Clean all foreign materials.
  • Storage: Store the product in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place, inaccessible to children. Keep away from corrosive agents. Do not store outdoors.
  • Transportation: Secure the product against movement or falling in vehicles to prevent injury or damage.
  • Lithium Batteries: Transport batteries in accordance with local and national provisions and regulations. Follow special requirements on packaging and labelling when transporting by a third party. Protect exposed connectors with insulating caps or tape. Do not transport cracked or leaking batteries.

Residual Risks:

Even with prescribed use, certain residual risks remain:

  • Injury from blades: Contact with blades can cause serious injury.
  • Injury from vibration: Use the right tool, designated handles, and restrict working time and exposure.
  • Hearing injury: Wear ear protection and limit exposure.

The manual uses signal words like DANGER, WARNING, and CAUTION to indicate levels of risk, from imminent hazardous situations resulting in death or serious injury to situations that may result in property damage.
