Overview

This document is the original instruction manual for the AEG POWERTOOLS EX 125 ES Random Orbital Sander.

Function Description

The AEG EX 125 ES is an eccentric sander designed for versatile sanding tasks. It can be used for coarse sanding and grinding, fine sanding and polishing, rubbing down weather-beaten paint, and polishing scratches on acrylic glass. The tool is suitable only for dry sanding. It features electronic speed control, allowing the user to adjust the sanding speed from 1 to 6, depending on the application and material. The sander is equipped with a dust extraction system, which can be used with the included dust bag or connected to an external vacuum cleaner for increased efficiency.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Model: EX 125 ES
  • Rated input: 300 W
  • No-load speed: 7000-12000 min⁻¹
  • Orbital travel diameter: 2.4 mm (3/32")
  • Dimensions of grinding plate: 125 mm
  • Weight (according to EPTA-Procedure 01/2003): 1.7 kg
  • Noise/Vibration Information (measured according to EN 60745):
    • Sound pressure level (K=3dB(A)): 80.0 dB(A)
    • Sound power level (K=3dB(A)): 91.0 dB(A)
    • Total vibration values (vector sum in three axes, determined according to EN 60745):
      • Vibration emission value aₕ: 7.4 m/s²
      • Uncertainty K: 1.5 m/s²
  • Mains Connection: Connects only to single-phase AC current and to the system voltage indicated on the rating plate. Conforms to safety class II, allowing connection to sockets without an earthing contact.

Usage Features

The EX 125 ES sander is designed for ease of use and efficiency.

  • Sanding Disc Attachment: The sanding disc is attached using a VELCRO® system. Users should carefully press the fuzzy side of the sanding disc against the packaging pad as firmly as possible. To maximize dust extraction efficiency, the holes in the sanding disc must be aligned with those on the sander.
  • Start/Stop Operation: The tool is started and stopped using a clearly marked switch.
  • Speed Control: An electronic speed control dial allows the user to select one of six speed settings (1...2...3...4...5...6), enabling precise control for different materials and sanding requirements.
  • Dust Extraction: The sander includes a dust bag for collecting sanding dust. This bag can be easily attached and removed. For enhanced dust extraction, the tool can be connected to an external vacuum cleaner, such as the AEG AP 300 ELCP, using a Ø 32 mm hose. This helps maintain a cleaner work environment and protects the user from harmful dust.
  • Ergonomics: The design appears to prioritize user comfort and control during operation.
  • Sanding Technique: The manual advises against applying too much pressure, as this will reduce the efficiency of the tool. Optimal performance is achieved with moderate pressure.

Maintenance Features

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of the EX 125 ES sander.

  • Ventilation Slots: The ventilation slots of the machine must be kept clear at all times to prevent overheating.
  • Accessories and Spare Parts: Users should only use AEG accessories and spare parts. For components not described in the manual, users should contact AEG service agents.
  • Pre-Operation Checks: Before performing any work on the machine, the plug should be pulled out of the socket. The machine should only be plugged in when it is switched off. Before each use, the machine, cable, and plug should be checked for any damages or material fatigue.
  • Cable Management: The mains lead should be kept clear from the working range of the machine and always led away behind the user.
  • Repairs: Repairs should only be carried out by authorized Service Agents to ensure safety and proper functioning.
  • Dust Management: The dust produced by the tool can be harmful. Users are advised to use a dust absorption system and wear a suitable dust protection mask. Deposited dust should be thoroughly removed, for example, with a vacuum cleaner.
  • Asbestos Warning: The machine should not be used on any material containing asbestos.

Safety Instructions

The manual emphasizes several safety precautions:

  • Read Instructions: Users must read all safety warnings and instructions carefully before starting the machine to prevent electric shock, fire, or serious injury.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
    • Ear Protectors: Wear ear protectors to prevent hearing loss due to noise exposure.
    • Goggles: Always wear goggles when using the machine.
    • Dust Protection Mask: Wear a suitable dust protection mask, especially when dealing with harmful dust.
    • Gloves: Wear gloves for protection.
    • Sturdy Shoes and Apron: Recommended for additional protection.
  • Electrical Safety:
    • Appliances used in many different locations, including open air, should be connected via a residual current device (FI, RCD, PRCD) of 30mA or less.
    • Always disconnect the plug from the socket before carrying out any work on the machine.
  • Vibration Exposure: The vibration emission level is provided for comparison and assessment. Users should identify additional safety measures to protect against vibration effects, such as maintaining the tool and accessories, keeping hands warm, and organizing work patterns.
  • Waste Disposal: Electric tools should not be disposed of with household waste. In accordance with European Directive 2002/96/EC, electric tools that have reached the end of their life must be collected separately and returned to an environmentally compatible recycling facility.
