Local indications
Cause After three tries, no response on a configuration command has been received
from the NTU.
Actions Verify that the correct software image is running on the NTU. If this is not the
case, then download a suitable software image to the NTU, and perform a reset
in order to activate this software image.
If a suitable software image is running on the NTU, then reset the NTU, or
initiate a rediscovery of the SHDSL link, or shortly interrupt the SHDSL link.
EOC communication failures
There is no mechanism at the EOC link layer to guarantee delivery of a message,
except that each message requires at least one prescribed reply message. Reception of
the expected response(s) can be interpreted as a successful completion of an
EOC/EOC-ext. message exchange.
However, in case the expected response(s) are not received, two categories of EOC
communication failures can be differentiated:
A missing response (no response/confirmation at all, after three tries, while the
SHDSL line itself is operational) indicates a complete break-down of the
communication, leading to an “Embedded operations channel failure” (EOCF)
alarm.
An invalid response suggests that a configuration command has not been executed.
As a consequence, the configuration stored in the management information base
(MIB) on the LTU and the actual configuration of the connected SHDSL device
might differ. An invalid response leads to a “Configuration command incomplete”
(CNC) alarm.
