Information Alignment to the multiframe structure of the received VC-4/VC-3 signal is not
possible. Therefore, overhead and payload data of lower order VCs cannot be
extracted.

Local indications In the downstream direction, the alarm indication signal is inserted into the
next function.
Cause Unit failure in the upstream network element that generated the H4 multiframe
alignment signal or in the network element that reported the alarm.
Actions Check on the management system if unit failure is reported for the unit
generating the H4 multiframe alignment signal.
In that network element, replace the unit with a new one.
If the unit failure is not reported, loop the STM-1 signal at the transmitting
network element and at the receiving network element. In this condition, the
network element reporting VC-4 Loss of multiframe contains the faulty unit.
