Overview

The Vivera Retainer System is a series of custom-made, thin, transparent, removable plastic orthodontic retainers prescribed by a dental practitioner. These retainers are designed to maintain the position of a patient's teeth and prevent unwanted movement.

Important Usage Information:

It is crucial to wear your Vivera retainers for the entire duration prescribed by your dental practitioner. Adhering to the prescribed wear time ensures the desired results are maintained.

Key Usage Features:

  • Initial Preparation: Always rinse new retainers thoroughly with cold water before insertion.
  • Insertion:
    • Ensure you have the correct retainer: the upper retainer for the upper arch and the lower retainer for the lower arch.
    • Each retainer is marked with a unique treatment number, along with a "U" for the upper arch or an "L" for the lower arch, to prevent confusion.
    • You can insert either the upper or lower retainer first. Gently push the retainer over your front teeth. Then, apply even pressure with your fingertips to the tops of your left and right molars until the retainer clicks into place.
    • Retainers should fit comfortably and should never be forced into place.
    • Do not bite the retainers into place, as this can cause damage.
    • Note: If you experience sharp pain or significant discomfort, discontinue use and contact your dental practitioner immediately.
  • Removal:
    • Use your fingertips, starting on one side at the molars, and slowly work your way around to the other side.
    • Avoid unnecessary removal to prevent damage.
    • Do not use sharp objects to remove the retainers.
    • Immediately rinse the retainer with water, shake off excess water, and store it in the provided protective case.
    • Note: Remove retainers carefully. Do not use excessive force to bend or twist them. If you have difficulty removing them, consult your dental practitioner.

Daily Care and Maintenance:

  • Cleaning: Clean your retainers before each insertion. Use the Invisalign Aligner Cleaning System (recommended) or a similar product, or a soft toothbrush with water and a small amount of toothpaste.
  • Rinsing: Rinse each retainer thoroughly with water after every cleaning.
  • Avoid Harsh Cleaners: Do not use denture cleaners or mouthwash to clean or soak your retainers. These products can damage the retainer's surface, making it dull and more visible.
  • Temperature and Chemical Exposure: Keep retainers away from hot water, heat sources, and harsh chemicals.
  • Storage: Store retainers out of reach of small children and pets.
  • Allergic Reactions: In rare cases, retainers may cause allergic reactions. If this occurs, discontinue use and contact your healthcare provider immediately.
  • Note: If a retainer cracks, discontinue use and contact your dental practitioner for assistance.

Proper Oral Hygiene:

  • Eating and Drinking: Remove your retainers for eating and drinking, except when drinking water.
  • Brushing and Flossing: Brush and floss your teeth after each meal or snack before re-inserting your retainers. Consult your dental practitioner for hygiene technique questions.
  • Regular Dental Checkups: Regular dental checkups and cleanings are recommended for the continued health of your teeth and gums.

Storing Your Vivera Retainers:

A retainer case is included. When not wearing your retainers, always store them in this case to protect them from loss or damage.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • Pain: Some people experience slight tooth soreness, which is normal and usually subsides in a couple of days. If it persists, contact your dental practitioner.
  • Hot/Cold Beverages: Except for water, avoid eating or drinking with retainers in to prevent cavities, stains, and warping from extremely hot drinks.
  • Chewing Gum: Do not chew gum with retainers in, as it will stick. Remove retainers for all meals and snacks.
  • Staining: Smoking or chewing tobacco is discouraged while wearing retainers due to the possibility of discoloration.
  • Speech Impact: Speech may be temporarily affected (slight lisp) for a week or two. This usually disappears as your tongue adjusts to the retainers.
  • Lost/Broken Retainer: Immediately contact your dental practitioner if a retainer is lost or broken.
  • Forgetting to Wear: Failure to wear the retainer for the required daily hours can affect the ability to maintain desired results.
  • New Retainer Fit: Retainers should fit comfortably without force. If there are significant fit problems, discontinue use and contact your dental practitioner immediately.
  • Note: For additional questions, consult your dental practitioner.

Technical Specifications (Implied):

  • Material: Thin, transparent plastic.
  • Design: Custom-made orthodontic retention aligners.
  • Removability: Designed to be removable by the user.
