1.16.2. Handling
WARNING
Until the GEM
80 battery is completely discharged, the cells contain lithium
metal which reacts vigorously with water. It also burns readily in many gases.
The electrolyte is a non-corrosive, but flammable liquid.
The GEM
80 lithium batteries must never be recharged. GEM
80 batteries
should be stored in a dry area and, for maximum shelf-life, the temperature
should generally be kept between -10 and +35°C.
1.16.3. Disposal
Under no circumstances must any GEM
80 battery be crushed, incinerated or
disposed of in normal waste. Discharged or unwanted batteries are to be
returned to the following address for disposal:

They must be securely packaged and any exposed electrical connections
adequately covered with insulating tape to avoid short circuit during transit.
The package should be marked 'Spent Batteries'.
1.16.4. Damage
Should any GEM
80 batteries become physically damaged, the following
procedure must be adopted:

If electrolyte enters the eye, wash thoroughly with water and
