Navigate Kindle Fire 1st Generation
Learn how to navigate your Kindle Fire, including the onscreen keyboard.
Speakers: The top edge of your device contains stereo speakers to listen to music, movies,
audiobooks, and more.
Headphone jack: Plug in headphones to listen to audio content on your device.
USB/power port: Used to charge your device and transfer content between your computer and your
device via USB.
Power button: Press the power button to turn on the device. Press and swipe the orange ribbon to the
left to start using your Kindle Fire.
To put your device in sleep mode, press and release the power button. If you need to turn off the device
completely, press and hold the power button for seven seconds until the screen goes blank.
The power button has an orange charge indicator light that turns off when the battery is fully charged.
Touchscreen Actions
Swipe: Swipe your finger across the screen to turn pages, or scroll up or down within a screen.
Tap: Tap to select buttons or text, and to enter your selections using the onscreen keyboard.
