Chapter 1: Getting to Know Your Kindle Touch
33
If you send documents to your Kindle Touch 3G via e-mail
using 3G, there is a charge. Documents transferred via e-mail
using Wi-Fi are free. Another good reason to set up Wi-Fi!
To set up Wi-Fi, you need to know whether the network is
password-protected. This is probably the case in your home
or office; Wi-Fi hotspots in public locations, such as Starbucks
and McDonald’s, are generally not secured with a password.
To add a wireless network, follow these steps:
1. Make sure wireless is on by tapping the Menu button
and then selecting Turn On Wireless.
2. Tap the Menu button again and then tap Settings.
Wi-Fi Networks is the second item on the list. See what
networks (if any) the device has found.
3. Tap Wi-Fi Networks, and in the menu that appears,
select the network you want to connect to.
If the network you want to connect to requires a
password, enter it in the Wi-Fi Networks dialog box
that appears.
4. (Optional) Manually enter a Wi-Fi network in the
dialog box by following these steps:
a. At the bottom of the Wi-Fi Networks box, tap Join
to enter another Wi-Fi network. A dialog box
named Enter Wi-Fi Network will appear, along
with the on-screen keyboard.
b. Enter the network name and if applicable, the
password using the onscreen keyboard.
c. At the bottom of the Enter Wi-Fi Network dialog
box, tap the Advanced button.
You can advance through a series of screens
using the up and down arrows. Each screen
allows you to enter information relating to the
network including connection type, IP address,
and security type.
d. When all the necessary information has been
entered, tap the Connect button to join the network.
