Threading the Tape

FAST FORWARD mode.

looped to th e hub in such a manner t hat the
t ape will n ot co me free at the end of the r ee l.
This will prevent the safety swi tc h (S501)
fro m di sengaging the capstan idl er from the
caps t an, wh ic h in turn res ults in a flat being
worn on the capstan idler wheel. ( Any adhes-
i ve materia l accum u Jation on the r eel h ub
m ay also keep the tape from coming free at
th e en d of the reel, and sh ou ld ther efore be
removed w ith sol ve n t.)

Power
Power is supp li ed throu gh power switch 4S5 ,
whi
ch mu st be turned on to operate the elec-
tronic and m ec hanical assemblies. The me-
chanical assem bly and elec tronic asse mbly are
i ndividually fused by th e 3 ampere control
circuit fuse 5F2 and the

Sp eed Switches
There arc two sw itch es associated with oper-
ating
spee d. Th e t ape speed switch S503 deter -
mines the s peed of the capstan drive motor ,
and the e qualizalion switch 4S2 ch anges the
equa li za tion in the amplifi ers approp1fatcly.

Tape Motion
T he tape motion is contro ll ed by means of
four p us hbu ttons l abeled REWIND , FAST
FWD. ST OP and PLAY.
PL AY OR RECORD
T he t ape is set into pl ay motion at the speed
selected by the tape speed switch when the
P LAY button S505 is pressed . To change from
play to lhc record mode with the tape in
motion , press the r ecor d button 4S6 on the
electronic assemb ly.
STOP
To sl op the t ape while it is movin g in any
mode , press the STOP button S502. The equ ip -
ment will stop automatica ll y if th e tape breaks
or runs off either ree l.
FAST FORWARD
Th e equipment can be started in fast for-
ward or swiLchcd to fast forward from any of
the operating mod es by pressing the fast for-
ward button S506.
REWIND
Th e e quipment can be started in rewi nd or
s wit c hed to rewind from any of th e oper atin g
mod es by pr ess in g th e rewind button S507.
NOTE
l n using either the fast f orward or
rewind mode, it is desirable to remove
the tap e frnm dir ec t con tact with th e
h
eads /Jy opeu i n_q the gate of th e /,P ad
assc111uly. Thi s will reduce wea r 011
th e h eads and pre ve nt the oxide coat-
ing 011 the tape from depo,<dting on
th e heads and impairing their per-
formance.
Ed iting and Cueing
Ind exing th e tape as in editing or cueing . or
when approaching the e nd of the reel, is simpli-
fied by
holding down a co mbination of buttons.
Tap e motion ca n be reduced by holding down
lhc fast f'orward and rewind buttons s imull an -
eous l y. and th en alternat ing between the two
to contro l ta pe dire ction. When the de s ir ed
point is reached. the STOP butt on mu st be held
down until the fast forward and rewind but-
tons arc released.
