EXECUTIVE ADJUSTABLE COLUMN SOUND LECTERN S505A / SW505A
Question and Answer IconNeed help?

Do you have a question about the AmpliVox S505A and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The AmpliVox S505A and SW505A Executive Adjustable Column Sound Lecterns are designed to provide a flexible and functional solution for public speaking and presentation needs. These portable sound systems are engineered for ease of assembly and operation, featuring a no-tool assembly process that allows users to quickly set up the lectern.

Assembly and Adjustability:

The lectern's base assembly involves attaching the base to the center column using four 2-inch long knurl knob screws. It's recommended to partially tighten each screw initially and then fully tighten them once all four are in place. The reading table is then attached to the top of the column using four 1-inch long knurl knob screws, ensuring the corners are properly aligned for the screws to fit. A speaker grille is easily attached to the front of the lectern by pushing its plastic posts into corresponding cups.

A key feature of this lectern is its adjustable height, ranging from 38 to 44 inches when measured from the amplifier side. To adjust the height, users simply loosen the adjustable height knob with one hand while holding the table flat with the other. The lectern can then be extended or lowered to the desired height, and the knob is retightened to lock it in place. This adjustability ensures comfort for a wide range of speakers.

Microphone System:

The lectern includes a flexible gooseneck microphone. The microphone cord comes pre-wired to the amplifier and needs to be assembled into the mounting flange located on the reading table. The plug end of the microphone cable is inserted into the rubber boot of the mounting flange from underneath, then pushed through. The gooseneck microphone is connected to the plug end of the cable, taking care to align the three small pins to avoid bending them. Excess cable is then pushed back through the rubber boot, allowing the microphone to stand upright.

The control panel features dedicated knobs for MIC 1 (gooseneck microphone), MIC 2 (external microphone input), AUX (external device input), BASS, and TREBLE. These controls allow users to adjust volume levels and tone for optimal sound quality.

Wireless Microphone System (SW505A Model):

For the SW505A model, a 16-channel UHF wireless microphone system is included, consisting of a receiver and either a bodypack transmitter or a handheld microphone (Model S1695).

Wireless Receiver:

The receiver features a channel display, RF and AF indicators, an auto channel select function (ASC/IR), manual channel selection buttons, mute level adjustment, and a volume control. To set up, the receiver's power/volume control is turned on, and a frequency channel is selected using the select buttons. The channel number on the receiver must match that of the wireless transmitter.

Bodypack Transmitter:

The bodypack transmitter operates on one "AA" 1.5 Volt alkaline battery, providing approximately 8 hours of operating time. The battery is installed by sliding off the battery cover. A small screwdriver (supplied) is used to select a channel (1-16) on the side panel, ensuring it matches the receiver's channel. Once matched, the RF indicator on the receiver will glow red when the transmitter is turned on. The lapel or headset microphone plugs into the MIC INPUT JACK on the bodypack. The power ON/OFF switch illuminates green when on, and turns red when batteries need replacement. The mute level on the receiver can be adjusted with a small screwdriver if speaker sound is breaking up.

Handheld Microphone (Model S1695):

The handheld microphone requires two "AA" 1.5 V batteries, installed by twisting off the bottom section. The LCD screen displays battery status, and a flashing "BATTERY" symbol indicates low battery. The microphone features an interchangeable head, a power/mute control switch, a select button, and a microphone input sensitivity adjustment. The sensitivity adjustment allows users to fine-tune the microphone's gain for different speaking volumes, using the supplied plastic screwdriver.

Auto Sync Feature:

To auto-sync the handheld microphone with the receiver, first select the desired channel on the receiver. Then, press the ASC button on the receiver, which will cause the IR light to flash. Turn on the microphone and point its end at the flashing IR light on the receiver. The microphone will then auto-sync to the same channel.

Microphone Operation and Status Display (Handheld):

  • Turn On: Press and hold the "POWER/MUTE" button until the LCD screen lights up.
  • Mute: Press "POWER/MUTE" twice. The channel number will flash when muted. Pressing it twice again removes "MUTE."
  • Turn Off: Press and hold "POWER/MUTE" for 2 seconds.
  • Manual Channel Select: Press and hold the "SELECT" button for 2 seconds until "Channel" and the channel number appear. While flashing, press "SELECT" to cycle through channels. The flashing stops after 10 seconds.
  • Lock/Unlock Channel: Press "POWER/MUTE" and "SELECT" simultaneously. A "LOCKED" symbol appears when locked, preventing accidental channel changes.

Bluetooth Module (Model S1500):

The lectern also includes a Bluetooth module for wireless audio streaming. With the main power switch on, pressing the Bluetooth button (M) turns on Bluetooth pairing. Holding it for 4 seconds enters pairing mode. The red LED (N) will flash while searching for a Bluetooth signal for up to 10 minutes. Users can select "AmpliVox" from their device's Bluetooth menu, or use pin code "0000." Once paired, the red LED will remain solid. Buttons are provided to move to the next song, play previous song, and pause playback. The volume control (L) adjusts the Bluetooth audio level. It is important to turn off Bluetooth power before turning off the main power to avoid cycling through a power off/on sequence the next time it's used.

Problem Solving:

The user guide provides troubleshooting tips for common issues:

  • Unit Not Turning On: Check if the unit is plugged in.
  • Muffled Sound: Adjust bass and treble levels.
  • Feedback: Reduce feedback by pointing the microphone away from speakers, keeping it behind speakers, or lowering volume levels.
  • No Sound (Power On): Check main volume level. For wireless systems, ensure receiver and transmitter batteries are installed and both units are on.
  • Weak Microphone Signal: Check microphone batteries and cables/connectors.
  • Wireless Mic Not Working: Verify transmitter batteries are charged, transmitter is on, the "signal" LED lights up, and transmitter and receiver are on the same channel.
  • Wireless Mic Cuts In and Out: Ensure line of sight between unit and user. Check transmitter battery if the "signal" LED goes out.
  • Buzzing Noise: Check cables for damage and unplug them one at a time to isolate the source. Check for ground loops and use a ground loop isolator if needed.

Maintenance:

Regularly check battery levels for wireless components and replace them as needed. Ensure all connections are secure. The no-tool assembly design simplifies any necessary reassembly or adjustments. For any issues, AmpliVox customer service is available.
