Andis Hot Iron
Model: STI-3
Safety & Use Instructions
Use iron only for its intended use.
Never iron over zippers, pins, metal rivets, or snaps, as these may scratch the non-stick
sole plate.
To protect against risk of electric shock, do not immerse the iron in water or other
liquids.
The iron should always be turned to “off” before plugging or unplugging from outlet.
Never yank cord to disconnect from outlet; instead, grasp plug and pull to disconnect.
Do not allow cord to touch hot surfaces. Let iron cool completely before putting away.
Loop cord loosely around iron when storing.
Always disconnect iron from electrical outlet when filling with water or emptying and
when not in use.
Do not operate iron with a damaged cord or if the iron has been dropped or damaged.
To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not disassemble the iron.
Close supervision is necessary for any appliance being used by or near children. Do not
leave iron unattended while connected or on an ironing board.
Burns can occur from touching hot metal parts, hot water, or steam. Use caution when
you turn a steam iron upside down–there may be hot water in the reservoir.
How to Dry Iron
1. Turn the adjustable steam dial to “dry”.
2. Plug in iron.
3. Turn temperature control dial to desired temperature. Allow two minutes for iron to
reach desired temperature.
How to Steam Iron
1. Unplug iron. Using a container, slowly pour tap water into the water tank opening
until the “max” fill line has been reached. Please note: Do not fill iron directly from the
faucet.
2. Turn adjustable steam dial to “dry”. Plug iron into outlet.
3. Turn temperature control dial to desired setting.
4. Allow two minutes for the iron to reach desired temperature. 5. Set adjustable steam
dial to desired setting.

Overview

This document describes the Andis Hot Iron, model STI-3, a versatile appliance designed for both dry and steam ironing, equipped with various features to enhance user convenience and safety.

Function Description

The Andis Hot Iron serves the primary purpose of smoothing out wrinkles and creases from fabrics. It can be operated in two main modes: dry ironing and steam ironing. In dry ironing mode, the iron heats up to a user-selected temperature without releasing steam, ideal for fabrics that are sensitive to moisture or for simply pressing dry garments. For more stubborn wrinkles or fabrics that benefit from moisture, the steam ironing function can be activated. This mode utilizes water from an internal tank to generate steam, which is then released through the soleplate to relax fabric fibers, making it easier to remove creases. The iron also features a "Shot of Steam" button for a powerful burst of steam, useful for particularly tough wrinkles, and a "Spray Button" that delivers a fine mist of water, which can help in setting creases or dampening heavier fabrics.

A key safety and convenience feature of this iron is its "Auto-Off Function." If the iron is left stationary on its heel rest for 15 minutes, or if it's left unmoved in the ironing position or accidentally tipped over for 30 seconds, it will automatically stop heating. A blinking light at the base of the water tank indicates that the auto-off feature has been activated. To restart the iron, the user simply needs to move it back and forth, and the light will stop blinking, signaling that the iron has resumed heating.

The iron is equipped with a retractable cord, which allows for easy storage and prevents tangling. The cord can be pulled out to the desired length for use and then retracted by pressing a cord release button. Users are advised to hold the plug while retracting the cord to prevent it from snapping back and forth, which could cause injury or damage.

Usage Features

Operating the Andis Hot Iron is straightforward, with clear instructions for both dry and steam ironing.

For dry ironing:

  1. The adjustable steam dial should be set to "dry."
  2. The iron is then plugged into an electrical outlet.
  3. The temperature control dial is turned to the desired temperature setting, and the iron is allowed approximately two minutes to reach that temperature before use.

For steam ironing:

  1. The iron must first be unplugged.
  2. Tap water is slowly poured into the water tank opening until it reaches the "max" fill line. It is important not to fill the iron directly from the faucet.
  3. The adjustable steam dial is set to "dry," and the iron is then plugged into an outlet.
  4. The temperature control dial is set to the desired fabric setting.
  5. After allowing two minutes for the iron to reach the desired temperature, the adjustable steam dial is set to the desired steam setting. For water, ordinary tap water is recommended. However, if the user has extremely hard water, it is advised to alternate between tap water and distilled water to prevent mineral buildup.

The iron includes several controls to customize the ironing experience:

  • Temperature Control Dial: This dial allows the user to adjust the iron's heat according to the specific fabric type being ironed or the general ironing needs.
  • Adjustable Steam Dial: This dial offers three settings, enabling the user to select the appropriate level of steam output for their ironing task.
  • Shot of Steam Button: Pressing this button delivers a powerful burst of steam from the non-stick soleplate, which is highly effective for removing stubborn creases and wrinkles.
  • Spray Button: This button releases a light mist of water onto the fabric, useful for dampening heavier materials to aid in wrinkle removal or to help set creases.

Maintenance Features

Proper care after each use ensures the longevity and optimal performance of the Andis Hot Iron.

  1. After ironing, the temperature control dial should be turned to "off," and the iron should be unplugged and allowed to cool completely. It's noted that the iron takes longer to cool down than it does to heat up.
  2. To empty any remaining water from the iron, the pointed end of the iron should be slowly tilted down over a sink, allowing the water to run out of the water tank opening.
  3. For cleaning the non-stick soleplate, especially to remove starch or other residues, the plate must be cool. A small amount of mild cleaner can be applied to a damp cloth to form a paste, which is then gently rubbed onto the ironing surface. Afterward, the soleplate should be wiped with a moist cloth. It is crucial not to use metallic pads, scouring pads, abrasive cleaners, or harsh cleaners, as these can scratch the surface.
  4. Finally, the iron cord should be retracted by pressing the cord release button. The iron should be stored in an upright position, never laying flat on its non-stick soleplate.

The design of the iron includes a non-stick soleplate for smooth gliding over fabrics, a water tank opening for easy refilling, a transparent water tank to monitor water levels, and a heel rest for safe upright storage during and after use. A hidden light indicates the iron's operational status, particularly in relation to the auto-off function.
