This document provides instructions for the Aqua Select® Crossover and Enclosure, Model 832405B, designed for use with the Aqua Select® Everest Bridge System (832421B). It details the assembly process, required parts, safety information, and maintenance guidelines.
Function Description:
The Aqua Select® Crossover and Enclosure is a component of a pool entry system that connects two Aqua Select® Everest Steps, forming a bridge over the pool's top rail. It provides a stable and secure pathway for entering and exiting the pool, enhancing safety and convenience. The enclosure aspect refers to the pickets and handrails that form a barrier along the sides of the crossover and steps, preventing accidental falls. The system is designed to be robust and durable, supporting users as they transition between the pool deck and the water.
Important Technical Specifications:
The Aqua Select® Crossover and Enclosure system requires several cartons for complete assembly:
- (2) 832402B Aqua Select® Everest Steps
- (1) 832405B Aqua Select® Crossover and Enclosure (this manual's focus)
- (1) 832406 Aqua Select® Gate (optional, for gate assembly and attachment)
The parts included in the 832405B carton are:
- A. Connecting Step (832402WS): 1 unit. This is the central tread surface of the crossover.
- B. Connecting Rails (AC CONRAIL): 2 units. These rails connect the connecting step to the handrail posts of the individual steps.
- C. Single Pickets (AC PICKETS1): 2 units. These are attached to the handrail on the third step down.
- D. Double Pickets (AC PICKETS2): 2 units. These fit on the second step down.
- E. Triple Pickets (AC PICKETS3): 2 units. These align with the notches at the top of the handrail of the outside step.
- F. Lock Caps (832402LC): 5 units (only 4 are used in assembly). These secure the connecting step to the connecting rails.
Hardware included (LL HDW30937):
- G. (40) #10 x 1-1/4" Screw: Used for securing the crossover to handrail posts and handrails to posts.
- H. (12) #10 x 3/4" Screw: Used for fastening pickets in place.
Tools required for assembly:
- Hammer and a wood block or rubber mallet
- Phillips head screwdriver
- Drill with 1/8" drill bit
- Pliers
- Liquid soap or lubricant
Usage Features:
The assembly process is detailed in eight steps:
- Step 1 & 2 (Connecting Step Assembly): One connecting rail (B) is laid flat, and the connecting step (A) is pushed into its openings until fully seated, ensuring the tread surface faces up. The second connecting rail (B) is then attached to the opposite end of the connecting step (A).
- Step 3 (Lock Cap Installation): Four lock caps (F) are centered over the holes on the side of the connecting rails and tapped into place with a mallet or hammer until secured over the pins.
- Step 4 (Crossover Placement): One Aqua Select® Everest Step (832402B) should already be inside the pool and weighted. The second assembled step (832402B) is placed outside the pool, aligned with the inside step. The assembled crossover is then slid down over the upper handrail posts of both steps until it rests on the pool top rail. Lubricant may be needed for easier installation. A crucial caution is provided: DO NOT attempt to stand on the crossover until the bridge is fully assembled.
- Step 5 (Securing Crossover): The crossover is screwed into the handrail posts using 16 #10 x 1-1/4" screws (G), with eight screws per side at pre-marked locations.
- Step 6 (Handrail Installation): The ends of the handrails (packed with 832402B) are lubricated and slipped into the open ends of the posts on both the inside and outside steps. Handrails are pushed down until fully seated and secured with one #10 x 1-1/4" screw (G) per post (two on each side). If installing the Everest Bridge System with a gate (832421B), handrails should only be installed on the INSIDE step at this time, and the gate instructions (832406) should be consulted for further details.
- Step 7 (Picket Installation): The triple pickets (E) are aligned with the notches at the top of the outside step's handrail, lining up with openings in the top step's handrail. Double pickets (D) fit on the second step down, and single pickets (C) attach to the handrail on the third step down. Pickets are fastened at the top and bottom using #10 x 3/4" screws (H).
- Step 8 (Completion): Crossover installation is complete. If a gate is being installed, refer to the gate carton (LL 832406) for instructions.
- When lifting heavy or awkward loads, two people are suggested to avoid injury.
- The pool entry system should NOT be used for any purpose other than its intended use.
- The maximum weight on the steps should NOT exceed 350 lbs.
- WARNING: Exceeding the recommended weight limit may cause the step to fail and result in injury.
Maintenance Features:
- Winter Removal: Step/ladder/bridges MUST be removed for winter to prevent cracking.
- Cleaning: Before storing for winter, it is recommended to spray down the step with hose water to rinse off any chemical residue.
- Storage: The step/ladder/bridges should be protected from the elements and stored in a shed, garage, or covered with a tarp.
Step Mats:
- The use of a step mat (e.g., Model 832213 Aqua Select® 36" x 48" MAT) is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED with any pool step.
- Step mats prevent damage to the pool liner from slight movements of the pool step.
- Installation of Step Mat:
- Remove the step mat from packaging.
- Place the step mat onto the bottom of the pool with the smooth side facing down towards the liner.
- Place the fully assembled step on top of the step mat, ensuring it is centered.
- Properly secure the step to your pool.
- Step mats are sold separately.
