This document describes the Argento BiMax XL and BiMax XL + e-bikes, which are electrically power-assisted cycles (EPACs). The manual provides comprehensive information on the product's function, technical specifications, usage, and maintenance.
Function Description
The Argento BiMax XL and BiMax XL + are pedal-assisted bicycles equipped with an auxiliary electric motor that activates exclusively when the pedals are operated. The motor does not replace muscular effort but assists the rider, reducing fatigue. The electric motor is powered by a lithium-ion battery and controlled by a control unit that manages power delivery and additional thrust based on real-time sensor readings (PAS) and user-defined parameters via the handlebar display. The electric motor assistance automatically deactivates when a speed of 25 km/h is reached. These e-bikes are designed for outdoor use on paved surfaces and/or terrains suitable for their technical and structural characteristics.
Important Technical Specifications
Both BiMax XL and BiMax XL + models share many core specifications:
- Display: LCD - CDC13-BT (BiMax XL) or LCD - APT 500S (BiMax XL +). These displays show speed (Km/H or MPH), distance (TRIP and ODO), battery charge level, and selected pedal assistance level. They also indicate malfunctions with error codes.
- Motor: Bafang 48V 500W - brushless rear motor.
- Battery: Li-Ion 48V 12.8Ah 614Wh - external and removable.
- Brakes: Front and rear hydraulic disc brakes with cut-off sensors on the brake levers.
- Gear Change: Shimano 7 gears (1x7) - rear derailleur.
- Drive: Chain - 7 speed.
- Wheels: 20" front and rear.
- Lights: Front and rear LEDs.
- Frame: Aluminium 6061 - folding.
- Battery Charger: Input: AC 100V-240V 2.0A (Max) - Output: DC 54.62V 2.0A (Max).
- Maximum Load Supported by E-bike: 100 kg.
- Maximum Load Supported by Luggage Rack: 15 kg.
- Weight of E-bike: BiMax XL: 28 kg; BiMax XL +: 29 kg.
- Full Speed: 25 km/h.
Usage Features
The e-bikes offer several user-friendly features:
- Display Control: The LCD display allows users to switch the display on/off, select pedal assistance levels (1 to 5, with 0 disabling assistance), and enable a "walk assist" mode (up to 6 km/h) by holding the '-' button. The display also shows various data like average speed, maximum speed, partial distance (TRIP), total distance (ODO), and remaining battery charge.
- Pedal Assistance Levels: Users can choose from 5 different pedal assistance levels, ranging from minimum electrical support (ECO mode) to maximum (Turbo mode). The display configuration allows for adjusting the interval of selectable assistance levels (0-3, 0-5, or 0-9).
- Walk Assist Mode: This feature provides electric motor assistance up to 6 km/h, intended for pushing the bike while walking alongside it, holding the handlebars firmly with both hands. It is strictly prohibited to use this mode while sitting on the saddle.
- Lighting: The front and rear LED lights can be switched on/off quickly by pressing the ON/OFF button.
- Battery Management: The removable lithium-ion battery can be locked/unlocked with a key, allowing for easy removal for charging or storage. A residual charge indicator is present on the battery.
- Folding Mechanism: The e-bikes feature folding pedals and a frame opening/closing mechanism, making them compact for storage and transport. The handlebar stem also folds.
- Adjustability: The saddle can be adjusted in height, advancement, and inclination. The handlebar height and inclination are also adjustable.
- Braking System: Hydraulic disc brakes on both front and rear wheels ensure effective stopping power. Brake levers include cut-off sensors that immediately disengage motor propulsion upon activation.
- Gear System: A 7-speed Shimano derailleur system allows for changing gears to adapt to different terrains and riding conditions.
Maintenance Features
Regular maintenance is crucial for the e-bike's safety and longevity:
- Pre-ride Checks: Before each use, riders must check brake functionality, tire pressure, wheel wear, and battery charge status.
- Bolt Tightness: Regularly check and tighten all bolts, nuts, and self-tightening parts, as they can loosen over time.
- Component Wear: Like all mechanical components, the e-bike is subject to wear and tear. Components showing cracks, scratches, or color changes in high-stress areas should be replaced.
- Cleaning: The e-bike should be cleaned regularly, always with the battery removed. Use a sponge or soft cloth with water and neutral detergent, taking care to avoid electrical components. Do not use high-pressure water jets on electrical parts, the motor, display, or battery. Avoid alcohol, gasoline, kerosene, or other corrosive solvents.
- Battery Care: The battery should be charged with the supplied charger after each use. Avoid prolonged charging and complete discharge to prevent damage and maintain efficiency. Store the battery in a dry, cool, ventilated space (15-25°C) away from flammable materials, and perform periodic charging cycles during extended storage.
- Lubrication: Regularly clean and lubricate the chain and transmission components with appropriate products.
- Tire Maintenance: Regularly check tire pressure and wear. Replace worn or damaged tires with ones of the same specifications.
- Brake Pad Replacement: Brake pads should be replaced when their thickness is less than 1 mm.
- Suspension: Front and rear suspension (if present) require periodic checks for proper function and absence of play.
- Professional Maintenance: Any complex maintenance or repairs, especially those involving electrical and electronic systems, should be performed by authorized service personnel or specialized operators. Unauthorized modifications to the control unit or safety devices will void the warranty.
- Storage: When storing the e-bike for extended periods, it should be cleaned, the battery removed and stored separately, and exposed electrical contacts protected with antioxidant products. All unprotected surfaces should be greased. Avoid storing the bike outdoors or in vehicles for prolonged periods, as extreme temperatures and sunlight can accelerate component aging.
