Overview

The Cuggl Extra Wide Safety Gate is a pressure-mounted safety barrier designed for indoor domestic use, suitable for children up to 24 months of age. It is designed to prevent children from accessing certain areas of the home, such as staircases or rooms with potential hazards. The gate is available in white and can be extended to fit various opening widths.

Function Description:

The Cuggl Extra Wide Safety Gate is a manual closing system that acts as a physical barrier. It is installed by applying pressure against two opposing surfaces (e.g., walls or door frames) using adjustable wall cups. The gate features a locking mechanism that requires a "click" sound and the absence of a red mark on the lock to indicate proper closure. A bottom lock also engages when the gate is fully secured. The gate is designed to be extra wide, accommodating larger openings, and can be further extended with optional extension pieces.

  • Manual Closing System: Users must manually close the gate, ensuring it clicks into place and the red indicator is no longer visible, and the bottom lock is engaged.
  • Bottom of Stairs Placement: If used at the bottom of stairs, the gate should be positioned at the front of the lowest tread possible.
  • Wall Mounting & Fixings Guide: The manual provides a comprehensive guide to selecting appropriate wall plugs and screws for various wall types (general purpose, plasterboard, cavity fixing, hammer fixing, shield anchor) to ensure secure installation.
  • Gap Management: During installation, it's crucial to maintain a 0-3mm gap at the bottom of the gate and ensure the gap between the handle and the lock is less than 1mm for smooth operation and secure locking.
  • Visual Indicators: The gate features a red/green indicator on the lock mechanism to confirm proper closure.
  • Spanner (K) Included: A spanner (K) is provided for secure installation and future adjustments.

Maintenance Features:

  • Regular Checks: The gate and its parts should be checked regularly to ensure they are in proper working order, secure, and functioning correctly. This includes checking the gap and hand cog regularly to ensure the lock is secure.
  • Cleaning: The gate can be cleaned using mild soap and wiping with a damp cloth.
  • Wall Cup Adjustment: The position of the top wall cup on the lock side may need to be adjusted backwards or forwards to ensure the gate and frame are perfectly aligned and the lock operates smoothly.
  • Fixing Checks: From time to time, the fittings (wall plugs or screws) should be checked to ensure they do not become loose.
  • Replacement Parts: Additional or replacement parts should only be obtained from the manufacturer or distributor.
  • Spanner Retention: The spanner (K) should be kept for future adjustments of the gate.

Safety Warnings and Precautions:

  • Never use the safety barrier with a child able to climb over or dislodge it.
  • Be careful when stepping over the bottom bar.
  • Keep children away during installation, especially when using extensions.
  • Do not use the safety barrier if any components are damaged or missing.
  • Incorrect installation can be dangerous.
  • The safety barrier must not be fitted across windows.
  • Never use without all four wall cups, which must be screwed in place before use.
  • Always check that the barrier is properly closed after each use and before walking away.
  • Do not install a second gate above the first due to the risk of serious injury or death.
  • Do not allow older children to climb on or over the gate.
  • The safety barrier should not be used at the top of stairs or steps.
  • This product will not necessarily prevent all accidents; never leave child unattended.
  • Ensure appropriate fixings are used for the wall type (drywall, wood, brick, etc.). If provided wall plugs are unsatisfactory, consult a hardware store.
  • Any misuse, abuse, abnormal use, excessive wear and tear, improper assembly, negligence, environmental exposure, alteration, accident, or altered/removed serial number invalidates claims against the manufacturer.
  • Any damage to property during installation is the sole responsibility of the end user.
  • When drilling into walls, always check for hidden wires or pipes.
  • Ensure screws and wall plugs are suitable for supporting the unit; consult a qualified tradesperson if unsure.
  • Use the recommended drill bit, drill horizontally, and do not force or enlarge the hole.
  • Take extra care when drilling high walls, ceilings, and ceramic tiles; ensure wall plugs are inserted beyond the ceramic tile thickness.
  • Ensure wall plugs are well fitted and tight in the drilled hole.
