Overview

This document describes the ARLEC ENFORCER KPR850E Plunge Router, a power tool designed for DIY consumer use.

Function Description:

The ARLEC ENFORCER KPR850E Plunge Router is a versatile power tool primarily used for routing, which involves hollowing out an area in a relatively hard workpiece, typically wood. It is capable of chamfering, grooving, and making straight cuts. The plunge mechanism allows the user to lower the router bit into the workpiece to a set depth and lock it in place, then smoothly progress through the cut. It can also be used for trimming, especially with bits that have a bearing attached. The tool is equipped with a variable speed control, offering greater flexibility for different applications and materials.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model: KPR850E
  • Power: 850 watts
  • No Load Speed RPM: 9,000 - 27,000 revolutions per minute
  • Diameter of Collets: 6mm, 6.35mm (1/4"), and 8mm
  • Suitable Cutter Shank Diameters: 6mm, 6.35mm (1/4"), and 8mm
  • Maximum Blade Diameter: Up to 20mm
  • Voltage: 230-240V 50Hz

Usage Features:

  • Router Bit Installation/Removal: Bits are inserted into the collet cone and secured by holding down the spindle lock and tightening the router chuck. The tool comes with 6mm, 6.35mm (1/4"), and 8mm collet cones as standard. It is crucial to ensure the chuck has stopped spinning before pressing the spindle lock button and not to tighten the chuck without a bit fitted to prevent damage.
  • Cutting Depth Adjustment: The tool features a depth adjustment screw on the depth adjustment pole. The stopper block has three adjusting positions, allowing for easy selection of different depths of cut without repeatedly adjusting the pole. For deep cuts, it is advisable to make multiple passes, with no single cut exceeding 15mm to avoid overworking the motor, straining the bit, and reducing cut quality. The triple depth stop block can assist in making multiple passes, particularly when working on more than one piece of material, by setting two shallower depths in addition to the final depth.
  • Starting and Stopping: To start, firmly press the operating switch. To stop, simply release the switch.
  • Variable Speed Control: A speed dial allows adjustment of the no-load speed from 9,000 to 27,000 RPM. 'A' indicates the lowest speed, while 'G' indicates the highest. Recommended speed settings are provided as a guide for different materials (hardwood, softwood, chipboard, MDF) and router bit diameters.
  • Routing Direction and Feed Rate: The router bit revolves clockwise. For optimal cutting and material clearing, the tool should generally be moved from left to right when facing the workpiece. For outside edges, move anti-clockwise; for inside edges, move clockwise. The feed rate significantly impacts cut quality and tool/bit longevity. Moving too fast can result in rough, uneven cuts and potential damage, while moving too slowly can cause burning of timber and overheating. Users are advised to practice on scrap material to determine the optimal feed rate.
  • Straight Guide: Used for chamfering, grooving, and straight cuts. It should always be installed on the right-hand side in the feed direction. The guide bars slide into holes in the tool base, and the bit and guide are set to the desired position before tightening support screws. When cutting, the straight guide must sit flush with the workpiece side. If the workpiece edge is not straight or too far away, a clamped piece of wood or other straight material can be used as a guide.
  • Template Guide: This provides a sleeve for the bit to pass through, enabling use with template patterns. It clips into the base and is secured with screws. The tool's base is placed on the template, plunged to the required depth, locked, and then moved along the template's side.
  • Trimming: For trimming, a bit with a bearing attached is required. The bearing runs along the edge of the workpiece. Masking tape can be used on laminated or veneered edges to protect the surface. Different bearing sizes are available to adjust the trimming distance.
  • Dust Extraction: The tool is designed for use with a vacuum cleaner. The dust extraction adaptor accepts most standard 35mm vacuum cleaner hoses and attaches to the router with screws.

Maintenance Features:

  • General Care: Keep the work area clean and well-lit. Avoid exposing the tool to rain, dampness, or flammable liquids/gases. Keep children away from the work area and the tool. Secure workpieces with clamps or a vice. Maintain a balanced footing and avoid overreaching.
  • Tool Condition: Do not overload or force the tool. Regularly check for damage to protection guards, moving parts, mountings, and screws. Any damaged parts should be repaired by an authorised service dealer. Do not use the tool if the switch does not operate correctly.
  • Router Bits: Router bits should always be clean and sharp. Remove accumulated materials after each use. Inspect bits for damage (cutters, shaft) and replace worn, cracked, or damaged bits. Protect bits from damage during storage. Bits with pilot bearings should have their bearings removed, cleaned, and relubricated occasionally.
  • Motor Care: The armature and stator (motor) are critical components; ensure they are not damaged or affected by oil or water. Continued use of worn or damaged router bits can lead to reduced work efficiency and undue motor overload.
  • Repairs: All repairs should be carried out by an electrical specialist to prevent accidents.
  • Storage: When not in use, store power tools in a dry area inaccessible to children.
  • Safety: Always wear eye protection (safety glasses or goggles), and a facemask when dust is generated. Wear suitable work clothes; avoid loose clothing or jewellery. Use rubber gloves and non-slip footwear for outdoor work. Avoid body contact with grounded surfaces. Do not carry tools by the switch or abuse the power cable. Do not use the tool when tired. Remove all adjustment keys, spanners, and wrenches before switching on. Ensure the voltage specified on the nameplate matches the power supply.

Guarantee:

The product comes with a 24-month guarantee against defects in materials and workmanship for non-commercial DIY consumer use, provided it is used according to Arlec's recommendations and within specified voltage/current limits. The warranty excludes damage or malfunction due to commercial application, wilful abuse/misuse, or consumable items (e.g., motor brushes, bearings, router bits). For warranty claims, the product must be returned pre-paid to the place of purchase with the purchase receipt.
