The transmitter 12 volt battery needs to be connected before the locator can be used.
To do this, unscrew the battery compartment cover screws and remove the cover. Once
the cover is removed, connect the RED spade clip to the RED post on the battery and
the BLACK spade clip to the BLACK battery post. Replace the cover and replace the
screws.
A 9 volt square battery is also included for the receiver. To install this battery, remove
the battery compartment cover located on the back top portion of the Pro800 receiver. It
is sometimes helpful to use a flat tool in the battery cover notch to open the battery
cover. Install the 9 volt battery by connecting it to the battery boot inside the battery
compartment. Don't yank or pull hard on the battery boot. Replace the battery cover.
To test that the batteries have been correctly installed, turn each unit on. LEDs will light
on both if the batteries have been connected correctly. If not, repeat the installation
procedures.
WARNING – Do not touch the metal red or black alligator clips on the transmitter
cords when the power is on. There is danger of injury or death should this occur.
Battery Condition LEDs and Charging - There are marked low battery indicator
LED lights on both the transmitter and receiver. These LEDs light up when the battery
power has been diminished enough to affect the performance of the Pro800 (about 10
volts in the transmitter, 7 volts in the wand). After the low battery light has come on, the
LED will dim as the available battery power gets weaker. The LED will not light at all if
the battery is completely drained of power.
The Pro800 can be recharged at any time. This can be done by using the included
battery chargers. Turn the Pro800 off. Plug a charger into the Pro800 transmitter
charging connection located on the Pro800T control panel. Plug the other end of the
charger into a wall or car charger outlet. The Batt Charge light will blink as the battery is
being charged. When the battery is completely charged, the Batt Charge LED will
become solid and stop blinking.
Rechargeable batteries can last longer if properly cared for. First, never use too much
power for a job. You are just wasting battery power without improving your locate. Later
instructions will indicate a reading of 4 to 8 on the transmitter is preferable but not
required. Keep transmitter power to the minimum level required for a good locate.
Secondly, don't overcharge the battery. A completely dead battery only requires about 5
hours to recharge. Try to limit recharge time after the Batt Charge light has gone solid.
You are not getting a stronger battery by overcharging and you are reducing the life of
the battery. With proper care, the 12 volt battery should last up to 2 years.
Additional information is available for specific batteries at the battery manufacturer’s
websites.
Operation - Begin by powering off the controller and removing the common wire and
any target wires from the controller. Never submit any controller to voltage from any test
equipment. With the transmitter off, connect the red alligator lead to the wire you want to
trace (target wire) and the black alligator lead to the included ground stake. Insert the
