Our ovens, for example, have a very low energy consumption. Triple glazing and ASKO thermal wool insulation reduce
excess heat. The environmental focus can be followed throughout ASKO’s whole assortment. Some of our dishwashers
have a water consumption of only 13,6 litres, which makes them among the most water-efficient in the world.
Our role is to ensure that all of our products are environmentally responsible and achieve the highest levels of
proficiency. In 1999 our environmental work had advanced so far that we received environmental certification in
accordance with ISO 14001. For example, all components in our appliances that weigh more than 50 grams are
labelled for recycling.
This brief has kept our designers and engineers busy for 50 years and today we can be counted amongst
those who are making a helpful contribution to conserving Australia’s scarce natural resources. If you choose to
purchase an ASKO appliance it will give you many years of dependable service. And as your appliance toils away,
year after year, you can relax in the certain knowledge that your choice is environmentally responsible.
At ASKO, the driving force and dedication to produce the best appliances has always come from the same
source: all the co-workers, whose knowledge and ideas have helped us to produce some of the world’s best appli-
ances of the modern age. We can now reap the fruits of our long experience: awards and top test results from all
over the world make people choose our appliances. You could actually say that ASKO has grown from a farmer’s
backyard to an international brand, representing durability, environmental
awareness and Scandinavian design at its best.
ASKO cares for the environment
It all began in 1950, when the Swedish farmer Karl Erik Andersson received his first order for a washing machine
from his mother. He managed to produce a revolutionary model and the word spread. Eventually Karl Erik built a
small factory on the farm and star ted making washing machines full time. A few years later he started to produce
dishwashers and tumble dryers.
Parallel to the development in Sweden, a household appliance manufacturer named ASKO Kodinkone Oy in
Finland started to operate and in 1952 the first product, a refrigerator, was produced. Gradually the two compa-
nies commenced a cooperation and grew into the brand we now call ASKO. Today, ASKO has about 1,000
employees at production plants in Sweden and Finland and we have customers all over the world, who place high
demands on design, function and environmental care.
Most people want to make a contribution to spare our environment, but many of us don’t know how. Taking
shorter showers, recycling waste water, walking instead of driving – lots of little things add up. They all help, but it’s
still not enough. We need to be much kinder to our environment and adopt smarter methods.
Having energy, water and detergent consumption in mind when choosing appliances is a good start. That’s why
we are proud to say that commitment to the environment has traditionally been an important par t of ASKO’s
ethos, perhaps because the factories have always had nature on their doorstep.
