Overview

This document provides instructions for the assembly, care, and adjustment of the New Charterhouse Armoire, a piece of furniture designed for children's bedrooms by ASPACE.

Function Description:

The New Charterhouse Armoire is a two-part furniture unit consisting of an assembled top section and an assembled base section. It serves as a storage solution, likely a wardrobe or a similar cabinet, for children's rooms. The design emphasizes durability and practicality, aligning with ASPACE's mission to provide comfortable, secure, and individual spaces for children to sleep, learn, and play. The armoire is intended to be a long-lasting piece, built with creativity and inspiration, and delivered with care. A key safety feature is the inclusion of a securing block, which must be fitted and used to prevent the armoire from falling over, ensuring the safety of children.

Important Technical Specifications:

The armoire is supplied in two pre-assembled main parts:

  • 1x Armoire Top (assembled)
  • 1x Armoire Base (assembled)

Assembly requires:

  • 4 x wood screws for fixing the upper unit to the lower base.
  • 1x Securing block & Fittings for wall attachment.
  • A screwdriver (not supplied) is required for hinge adjustment and handle attachment.
  • A suitable wall fixing and screw (not supplied) appropriate for the wall material are needed for the securing block.

The product is designed to be assembled by an adult and contains small parts, necessitating that small children be kept clear of the assembly area.

Usage Features:

  • Assembly: The assembly process involves carefully lifting the assembled top onto the assembled base, ensuring proper alignment. The top section simply sits into the base. The upper unit is then fixed to the lower base using four supplied wood screws through holes in the lower shelf.
  • Handle Attachment: Knobs for the doors and drawers are initially located on the inside face. Users must remove them with a screwdriver and re-attach them to the outside face of each door and drawer.
  • Door Hinge Adjustment: The armoire features adjustable door hinges to ensure proper alignment and smooth operation.
    • Inward & Outward Movement: Doors can be adjusted inwards or outwards by loosening a single screw connecting the hinge to the mounting plate. Once adjusted, the screw must be re-tightened.
    • Horizontal Movement: Doors can be adjusted horizontally by tightening or loosening a single screw in the center of each hinge. Turning screws anticlockwise pulls doors outwards, and clockwise pulls them inwards.
    • Vertical Movement: Doors can be adjusted vertically by loosening two screws that attach the mounting plates to the side panels. Once the desired vertical position is achieved, the screws must be re-tightened.
  • Securing to Wall: A crucial safety feature involves securing the armoire to the wall. The supplied securing block is attached to the back edge of the top section. The armoire is then moved into its final position close to the wall, and a metal plate on the securing block is fastened to a sound wall using a suitable wall fixing and screw (not supplied). This task should be performed by a competent person or a professional to ensure safety.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: The armoire should be cleaned by wiping with a damp cloth and then drying with a soft cloth. It is explicitly stated that abrasive cleaners, chemical cleaners, or household polishes should never be used, as they can damage the wooden furniture.
  • Handling: Care must be taken when handling or moving the cabinet to prevent damage to the wooden furniture. Users are advised to lift the armoire rather than drag it.
  • Safety Checks: Users are instructed to periodically check all fittings to ensure that none have come loose, which is vital for maintaining the structural integrity and safety of the unit.
  • Placement: The armoire must be set up on an even and stable surface to ensure stability and prevent tipping.
  • Heat Sources: The armoire should be kept away from direct sources of heat, such as electric, gas, or coal fires, to prevent damage.
  • Intended Use: The furniture should only be used for its intended purpose. Using it otherwise could cause damage to the structure or serious injury, particularly to a child.
  • Customer Service: A dedicated customer service line (08000 219 015) is provided for assistance with problems, replacement parts, or spare parts. Identifying the specific part using the check list in the manual will help expedite the service.
