Overview

The Besam SR221-2 is a sensor designed for automatic door systems, specifically for use with Unislide and SL-500 controllers. It functions as a presence and motion detection device, ensuring safety and controlled access.

Function Description:

The SR221-2 sensor utilizes a combination of motion and presence detection to operate automatic doors. It features adjustable detection zones:

  • Threshold Zone (Rows 1-3): This zone detects presence directly in front of the door, preventing it from closing on individuals or objects. Its depth and width are adjustable.
  • Motion Zone (Rows 4-5): This zone detects approaching movement, triggering the door to open. Its depth and width are also adjustable.

The sensor offers various configurable settings via dipswitches and adjustment screws, allowing for customization to specific environmental conditions and operational requirements. Key functions include:

  • Sensitivity Adjustment: Configurable for low, middle, high, or super high sensitivity to detect movement and presence.
  • Presence Detection Timer (Learn Time): Sets how long the door remains open when presence is detected, with options for 30, 60, 180 seconds, or infinity.
  • Frequency Adjustment: Allows for different operating frequencies when multiple sensors are mounted near each other to prevent interference.
  • Active Sensor Rows Selection: Users can choose to activate 2, 3, 4, or 5 sensor rows, tailoring the detection pattern.
  • Immunity Setting: An "immunity" dipswitch helps prevent "ghosting" (unintended door openings), which may slightly reduce the detection pattern.
  • Bidirectional/Unidirectional Function: Configurable to detect movement from both directions or only one, depending on the application (e.g., exit-only).
  • Simultaneous Output: Allows for simultaneous output from the sensor, crucial for certain access control setups.

The device also includes safety/test input and output switches (Dipswitches 11-12) to facilitate communication with the Unislide controller, ensuring proper system integration and safety compliance.

Important Technical Specifications:

While specific numerical values for power consumption, operating temperature, or physical dimensions are not provided in the document, the wiring diagram indicates:

  • Power Supply: 12-24 VAC or 12-30 VDC.
  • Compatibility: Designed for Unislide Control Unit CU and SL-500 controllers.
  • Mounting Height: The sensitivity settings are correlated with mounting heights ranging from 2.0 m (6'6") to 3.0 m (9'10").
  • Lot Number: The Quick Reference Guide is specifically for Lot Number 1213H and higher, indicating potential variations in earlier versions.

Usage Features:

The SR221-2 is designed for ease of installation and field adjustment:

  • Mounting: The sensor should be mounted approximately 1/8" above the bottom of the header, not above the bottom of the plank cap.
  • Setting Mode: A "FUNCTION KEY" switch (6) allows the user to switch between "SETTING" and "OPERATION" modes for configuration.
  • Adjustments:
    • Depth Adjustment: The depth of the threshold zone (rows 1-3) is adjusted using the RED RING (4). The depth of the motion zone (rows 4-5) is adjusted using the BLUE RING (4). All rows 1-5 can be adjusted simultaneously using a combo side of the supplied tool.
    • Width Adjustment: The width of the threshold zone (rows 1-3) is adjusted using the left adjustment screws (5). The width of the motion zone (rows 4-5) is adjusted using the right adjustment screws (5).
  • Dipswitch Configuration: A series of dipswitches (1-16) control various operational parameters, from sensitivity and presence detection timer to frequency and active sensor rows.
  • Floor Condition Correlation: Sensitivity settings are recommended based on floor conditions (low, middle, high reflection) and mounting height, providing guidance for optimal performance.
  • North American Applications: Dipswitch 10 should be set to "up" for all North American applications, as TUV certification is primarily for Europe.
  • Access Control Exception: For access control systems, specifically on the interior or non-restricted access side sensor, dipswitch 14 should be set to OFF, even though it's generally ON for simultaneous output.
  • Controller Integration: Specific settings are required on the Unislide Control (Besam Function Selector Dipswitch 7 to ON) and SL-500 control (program parameter 09 Monitoring to value 02) for proper communication and functionality.

Maintenance Features:

The document provides a troubleshooting note:

  • LED Indicator: If the operation LED flashes Red/Green, it indicates an improperly set dipswitch. To clear this mode, the user should move the function key to "Setting Mode," adjust any dipswitch, and then return the function key to "Operation Mode." This suggests the LED serves as a diagnostic tool for basic configuration errors.

The SR221-2 is a versatile and adjustable sensor, crucial for the safe and efficient operation of automatic door systems, with clear instructions for installation, configuration, and basic troubleshooting.
