Overview

This document serves as the user guide for the ASUS VA247 Series LCD Monitor, providing comprehensive instructions for setup, operation, and maintenance.

Function Description

The ASUS VA247 Series LCD Monitor is a widescreen display designed to offer a crisp, brighter, and more vibrant visual experience. It supports various input sources, including VGA, DVI, and HDMI, making it versatile for different computing setups. The monitor is equipped with an On-Screen Display (OSD) menu that allows users to adjust a wide range of image settings, enhancing the viewing experience for various applications such as document editing, photo viewing, movie watching, and gaming.

Usage Features

The monitor offers several features to optimize user experience:

  • Splendid Modes: The monitor includes eight preset Splendid modes tailored for different content types.

    • Standard Mode: Ideal for general document editing, leveraging SPLENDID™ Video Intelligence Technology.
    • sRGB Mode: Best for viewing photos and graphics from PCs, also utilizing SPLENDID™ Video Intelligence Technology.
    • Scenery Mode: Optimized for displaying scenery photos with SPLENDID™ Video Intelligence Technology.
    • Theater Mode: Enhances movie watching with SPLENDID™ Video Intelligence Technology.
    • Game Mode: Provides an optimal experience for gaming, powered by SPLENDID™ Video Intelligence Technology.
    • Night View Mode: Designed for dark-scene game or watching dark-scene movie with SPLENDID™ Video Intelligence Technology.
    • Reading Mode: Specifically tuned for reading documents.
    • Darkroom Mode: Suitable for environments with weak ambient light.
    • Note: In Standard Mode, Saturation, Skin Tone, Sharpness, and ASCR functions are not user-configurable. In sRGB mode, Saturation, Color Temp., Skin Tone, Sharpness, Brightness, Contrast, and ASCR functions are not user-configurable. In Reading Mode, Saturation, Skin Tone, ASCR, contrast, and Color Temp functions are not user-configurable.
  • EyeCare Features: To reduce eye strain during prolonged use, the monitor incorporates EyeCare functions.

    • Blue Light Filter: This feature allows users to adjust the blue light filter level from 0 to maximum. A higher level reduces blue light scattering. When activated, the monitor automatically imports default settings from Standard Mode. While the maximum level is optimized and TUV low blue light certified, brightness remains user-configurable, except at the maximum filter level.
    • Rest Reminder: This function helps users take regular breaks by displaying a pop-up reminder on the upper left corner of the monitor for 5 seconds after a user-defined working time (e.g., 60 minutes). Pressing any key dismisses the reminder. When Rest Reminder is enabled, Splendid Demo Mode, GamePlus, and QuickFit functions are unavailable.
    • Color Augmentation: This feature allows adjustment of color enhancement from 0 to 100. It is not available in sRGB mode under Splendid or when Reddish or Yellowish is selected in the Skin Tone menu.
  • Color Adjustments: Users can customize the image color to their preference.

    • Brightness: Adjustable from 0 to 100.
    • Contrast: Adjustable from 0 to 100.
    • Saturation: Adjustable from 0 to 100.
    • Color Temp.: Offers three preset modes (Cool, Normal, Warm) and a User Mode. In User Mode, Red, Green, and Blue colors are individually configurable from 0 to 100.
    • Skin Tone: Provides three color modes: Reddish, Natural, and Yellowish.
    • Note: In Standard Mode, Saturation and Skin Tone functions are not user-configurable.
  • Image Adjustments: This section provides controls for various image parameters.

    • Sharpness: Adjusts the picture sharpness from 0 to 100.
    • Trace Free: Utilizes Over Drive technology to speed up response time, adjustable from 0 (lower) to 100 (faster).
    • Aspect Control: Allows adjustment of the aspect ratio to "Full" or "4:3". The "4:3" option is only available when the input source is in 4:3 format.
    • VividPixel: An ASUS exclusive technology that enhances visuals for crystal-clear and detail-oriented enjoyment, adjustable from 0 to 100.
    • ASCR (ASUS Smart Contrast Ratio): Enables or disables the dynamic contrast ratio function.
    • FreeSync: Allows a FreeSync-supported graphics source to dynamically adjust the display refresh rate, leading to power-efficient, stutter-free, and low-latency display updates.
    • Position (VGA only): Adjusts the horizontal (H-Position) and vertical (V-Position) of the image from 0 to 100.
    • Focus (VGA only): Reduces horizontal and vertical line noise by adjusting Phase and Clock separately, from 0 to 100. Phase adjusts the pixel clock signal, while Clock controls the number of pixels scanned per horizontal sweep. Incorrect settings can cause horizontal disturbances or vertical stripes and disproportionate images.
    • Auto Adjust (VGA only): Automatically adjusts the image to its optimized position, clock, and phase.
  • Input Select: Allows users to choose the input source from VGA, DVI, or HDMI signals.

  • System Setup: Configures various system settings.

    • Splendid Demo Mode: Activates a demonstration mode for the Splendid function.
    • GamePlus: A toolkit designed to enhance the gaming environment. It includes Crosshair (Practice Mode), Timer, FPS Counter, and Display Alignment functions. Users can select and activate these features from the GamePlus menu.
    • QuickFit: Provides three patterns: (1) Grid, (2) Paper size, and (3) Photo size. Grid pattern facilitates designers in organizing content. Paper size allows viewing documents in real size. Photo size helps photographers and users accurately view and edit photos in real size.
    • ECO Mode: Activates an ecology mode for power saving.
    • OSD Setup: Adjusts the OSD Timeout, DDC/CI settings, and Transparency of the OSD screen.
    • Language: Selects the OSD language from a wide range of options including English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Russian, Polish, Czech, Croatian, Hungarian, Romanian, Portuguese, Turkish, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Thai, and Indonesian.
    • Key Lock: Disables all key functions. It can be disabled by pressing the menu button for more than five seconds.
    • Information: Displays monitor information.
    • Power Indicator: Toggles the power LED indicator on/off.
    • Power Key Lock: Disables or enables the power key.
    • All Reset: Reverts all settings to the factory default mode.
  • Shortcut Keys: The monitor allows users to set two customizable shortcut keys.

    • Shortcut 1 & 2: Users can assign functions like Blue Light Filter, Splendid, Brightness, Contrast, Input Select, Color Temp., QuickFit, or GamePlus to these keys. The default setting for Shortcut 1 is Input Select, and for Shortcut 2 is Brightness.

Maintenance Features

Proper care and cleaning are essential for the longevity and optimal performance of the ASUS VA247 Series LCD Monitor.

  • Handling and Repositioning: Before moving the monitor, disconnect all cables and the power cord. Always grasp the edges of the monitor when lifting or carrying it; avoid lifting by the stand or the cord.
  • Cleaning:
    • Turn off the monitor and unplug the power cord before cleaning.
    • Use a lint-free, non-abrasive cloth to clean the monitor surface.
    • For stubborn stains, a cloth dampened with a mild cleaner can be used.
    • Avoid cleaners containing alcohol or acetone.
    • Use cleaners specifically designed for LCDs.
    • Never spray cleaner directly onto the screen, as it may drip inside the monitor and cause an electric shock.
  • Troubleshooting Common Issues:
    • Screen Flicker: If the screen flickers during initial use, turn off the Power Switch and turn it on again. This is a normal symptom due to the nature of fluorescent light.
    • Uneven Brightness: Slightly uneven brightness may occur depending on the desktop pattern used, which is considered normal.
    • Afterimage: If the same image is displayed for hours, an afterimage may persist after switching images. The screen will recover slowly, or turning off the Power Switch for several hours can help.
    • Black Screen/Flashing/Malfunction: If the screen turns black, flashes, or stops working, contact your dealer or a service center immediately. Do not attempt to repair the screen yourself.
  • VESA Wall Mount: The monitor's detachable stand is designed for VESA wall mounting (100 x 100 mm). A UL Listed Wall Mount Bracket with a minimum weight/load of 12 kg (screw size: M4 x 10 mm) is required and purchased separately. When detaching the stand, place the monitor face down on a clean, soft cloth to prevent damage.
  • Environmental Protection: The monitor is designed to comply with WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) directives, indicating that it should not be disposed of with household waste. Users are encouraged to hand over waste equipment to designated collection points for recycling to conserve natural resources and protect human health and the environment.
  • Power Supply: The monitor should be operated only from the specified power source indicated on the label. Use an appropriate power plug that complies with local standards. Avoid overloading power strips and extension cords to prevent fire or electric shock.
  • Environmental Conditions: Keep the monitor away from dust, humidity, and extreme temperatures. Do not place it in areas where it may get wet. Ensure it is placed on a stable surface.
  • Surge Protection: Unplug the unit during lightning storms or if it will not be used for a long period to protect it from power surges.
  • Ventilation: Slots and openings on the cabinet are for ventilation. Do not block these slots. Avoid placing the product near radiators or heat sources unless proper ventilation is ensured.
  • Foreign Objects: Never push objects or spill liquid into the monitor's slots.
  • Earthing Connection: Provide an earthing connection before connecting the mains plug. When disconnecting, ensure the earthing connection is disconnected after pulling out the mains plug.
