Changing User Preferences
Multi-user items?: You can use this field to create an
Office object called Other Users. The Other Users
object allows you to work with the Offices,
Filecabinets, folders, and files of other users of the
system along with the Filecabinet, folders, and files
of your own user login. Two selections can be used for
this field: Yes and No. Yes causes Other Users to be
added to your Office.
Di~lay command menu: You can turn off display of the
Command menu so that no menu appears when you press the
Cmd key. This field is useful if you know what the
commands are and want to type them as rapidly as
possible. It speeds response time when you are working
from a remote terminal.
Turn screen off after: You can set up automatic
blanking of your screen after a specified time interval
of no keyboard or mouse input. Your time interval can
be any number of minutes from 1 through 59. If you set
this field to 0, the screen never blanks automatically.
Default editor: This selection displays the editor you
use automatically when working with standard files.
The default editor originally supplied with the system
is ed, a UNIX line editor. The pathname for ed is
/bin/ed. If you have installed another editor--for
instance, vi-- you may want to use it as the default
editor. If so, type the pathname to the editor in this
field. The pathname for vi is /usr/bin/vi.
Default Shell: This selection appears if you have been
assigned expert status. Expert status displays UNIX
System in your Office window and allows you to access
the UNIX operating system from your Office. For more
information on expert status, see "Adding New Users" in
the "Updating the UNIX PC" chapter in the Managing the
UNIX PC section of this manual. When you select UNIX
System, you will be using the default shell shown in
this field. The pathname for the UNIX System V shell
is /bin/sh. The pathname for the Korn shell is
/bin/ksh (available with the optional Development Set
software) .
