24 - Left Tie Rod End
❑ The version marked with “L” or an “arrow” pointing in the drive direction, allocation, refer to the Parts
Catalog.
❑ Check dust caps for damage and correct seating.
❑ Conical pin must be free of grease and oil.
❑ If necessary, clean using dry rag, do not use cleaning agents.
3.4 Steering Arm Thrust Ring, Removing
and Installing
Special tools and workshop equipment required
♦ Torque Wrench 1332 40-200Nm - VAG1332-
♦ Torque Wrench Insert - Open Jaw - VAG1923-
Removing
– With vehicles with air suspension, place vehicle on hoist, refer
to ⇒ “4 Positioning Vehicle on Hoist and Wheels”, page 10 .
– Remove front wheel.
– Clean outside of power steering gear in area of boot.
– Check boot for wear (slits, cracks) and check sealing surfaces
of boot for dirt.
– Open clamp and push back boot.
– Remove tie rod using Torque Wrench Insert - Open Jaw -
VAG1923- .
– Remove the steering arm thrust ring -1- from the steering rack.
Installing
Caution
♦ Pay attention to the location of the steering arm thrust ring.
