Steering Gear without Steering Arm Thrust Ring
– Measure dimension -a- as shown in illustration.
Dimension -a- must be 152.6 mm.
Note
If dimension -a- is not achieved, check whether version is same
on left and right.
– Remove right boot from steering gear.
– Turn steering toward left as far as stop.
– Measure the dimension between the steering gear and the tie
rod/steering arm thrust ring hex fitting.
Dimension -a- must be the same in both measurements.

Special tools and workshop equipment required
♦ Torque Wrench 1783 - 2-10Nm - VAG1783-
♦ Steering Gear Grease
Removing
Request values with -Vehicle Diagnostic Tester- , refer to
-Item 17- ⇒ Item 17 (page 300) .
– With vehicles with air suspension, place vehicle on hoist, refer
to ⇒ “4 Positioning Vehicle on Hoist and Wheels”, page 10 .
– Only remove front noise insulation -1-.
