I n order t o better pr otect occup a nts in the event of
a
si de i m pac t , the c u r t ai n ai r b ag co vers vi r t ua ll y the
complete side windo w ar ea fr o m the A t o the
D-pillar . I n th e c a se of these modu les, the hybrid ga s
gener a t o r is instal led in the fr ont r o of ar ea . T h e
airbag is f i lled via a ga s lance. A c o ld ga s mixtur e of
helium (appr ox. 80 %) and ar gon (app r o x. 20 %) is
used, which is st o r ed at 300 bar in a co mpr e ssed
g a s c y linder . When the airbag contr o l un it ignites
the pr opellan t c h ar g e , burst d i sc I b r eaks due t o the
pr essur e gen e r a ted. T h e pr essur e in the
compr e ssed ga s cylinder in cr ea ses. When a c e r t ain
pr essur e is r e ac hed, the ga s br eaks b u rst disc II and
pene tr ates i n t o the ai r b ag vi a the f i lter and the ga s
la n c e.
