T h e battery isolation ig niter serves t o disconne ct
the star ter and al ter nat or c a ble fr o m the vehi cl e
batter y in the eve n t of a cr a s h. Activation is
perf ormed by the airbag contr o l unit. Whenever an
airbag or belt tensio ne r is trig ge r e d, the battery
isolation igniter is also activated. When the
pyr otec hnic pr opellant c h arge is ignite d, the ga s
pr essur e gen e r a ted push e s the pin, which is
a ttac h ed t o a pist on , br ea king the con nection
between the tw o terminals.
T h e ba ttery iso l a t ion i g ni ter must be r e placed
f o llowing activation.
