W Tips
• In the event of a defe ct in the rear spoiler system or in Audi
magnetic ride, it can happen that ASR and ASR/ESP cannot be deacti-
vated, or they a re activated automatically in t he dea ct ivated st at e.
• If a malfunction occurs in the EDS, this is signaled by an indicator
light, see ==> page 16.
• Some tracks (e.g. steeply banked turns) may affect ESP
respo nse . •
Rear spoiler
The rear spoiler improves vehicle handling and enhances
driver control.
Fig. 111 Switch for
rear spoiler
The rear spoiler deploys and retracts. Spoi ler operation can be set for
automatic or manual operation.
Automatic mode (normal operation)
• Extend ing a utomatically: This occurs when driving faster than
approximate ly 62 mph (100 km/h) or at a ce rta in engine compart-
ment temperature*.
• Retracting automatically: This occurs when dr iving slowe r than
approximate ly 2 2 mph (35 km/h) or at a certain engine compartment
t emperature*.
Manual mode
• Extend ing man ua lly: Press the switch ==> fig. 111 br iefly to extend
the rear spoiler comp lete ly.
• Retracting manually: When driving at speeds be low app roxi-
mately 12 mph (20 km/h), press a nd ho ld the switch to retract the
rea r spo ile r. When dr iving at speeds between 12 mph and 62 mph
(20 km/h and 100 km/h) , press the sw itch br iefly to retract the rear
spoiler completely . You cannot ret ract the rea r spoi ler if it extended
due to the engine compa rtment temperat ure*.
After 15 cycles (deploy and retract), manua l operation is suspended
fo r up to 2.S minu t es. Above 62 mph (10 0 km/ h), operatio n switches
to automatic mode.
& WARNING
Driving at higher speeds without the rear spoiler deployed can
impair handling characteri stics, making the vehicle harder to
control.
• If the rear spoiler warning/ indicator light in the instrument
cluster comes on, the rear spoiler may not have deployed. Never
drive at speeds higher than 87 mph (140 km / h) if the spoiler is
not deployed. Have the spoiler inspected as soon as possible by an
authorized Audi dealer or qualified work shop.
• Improper operation of the rear spoiler can cause crushing inju-
ries. Always make sure that nobody, especially children , is in the
way when the rear spoiler is deployed or retr acted.
• Always obey speed limit s and other traffic law s.
• Hot air from the engine compartment can escape th rough the
rear spoiler when it is open and it could burn you .
0 Note
• Never push the veh icle or apply fo rce to the rear spo iler - it cou ld
be damaged .
