& WARNING
You should perform braking maneuvers for the purpose of
cleaning the brake system only if road conditions permit. Other
road users must not be put at risk - you may cause an accident!
Before descending a steep grade, reduce speed and shift trans-
mission into a lower gear or lower driving position. Do not ride the
brakes or hold the pedal down too long or too often. This could
cause the brakes to get hot and diminish braking efficiency.
Do not "ride the brakes" by resting your foot on the pedal when
you do not intend to brake . This may cause the brakes to overheat ,
premature wear and increased stopping distance.
Under certain climatic and operating conditions such as
passing through water, driving in heavy rain or after washing the
vehicle, the effectiveness of the brake s can be reduced. In winter ,
ice can accumulate on the brake pads, linings, discs and drums.
Cautiously apply brakes for a test. Brakes will dry and ice coatings
will be cleaned off after a few cautious brake applications.
Driving for an extended period of time on salt-covered roads
without using your brakes can also affect brak ing efficiency. Clean
off accumulated salt coating from brake discs and pads with a few
cautious brake applications .
If you damage the front spoiler , or if you install a different
spoiler , be sure the air flow to the front brakes is not obstructed.
Otherwise the brake system could overheat reducing the effective-
ness of the entire brake system .
Failure of one brake circuit will impair braking capability,
resulting in increased stopping distance . Avoid driving the vehicle
and have it towed to the nearest authorized Audi dealer or quali-
fied work shop.
& WARNING (continued )
Never let the vehicle roll to a stop with the engine shut off.
If the brake booster is not working , for example when towing
your vehicle, or because the brake booster has somehow been
damaged, the brake pedal must be pressed considerably harder to
make up for the lack of booster assistance.
Power steering
When the engine is running, pow er steering makes it
easier for the driver to steer.
Powe r steering helps t he driver st eer the vehicle w it h lit t le physical
effort .
If t he eng ine is not running, the power steer ing system is also not
wo rking. In t his case, you w ill find it extr emely d ifficult t o turn the
steering wheel.
If you t urn t he stee ring
fully to the left or right when the vehicle is
stat ionary, you place a very heavy load on the power stee ring system .
Turning the steering w heel fully t o the left or right will cause noise in
the system . It also reduces eng ine idle speed.
0 Note
Do not ho ld t he stee ring tu rned fu lly to the left or right for more than
10 seconds when the engine is runn ing. There is a risk of damage to
t he power st eer ing system.
[I) Tips
In t he eve nt of a power stee ring syste m failur e, or if the engi ne is
not running (while be ing towed), you will still be able to steer the
veh icle. Howeve r, you w ill requ ire more effo rt to do so.
