Releasing the engine compartment lid
The engine compartment lid is released from inside the
vehicle.

Requirement: The ignition must be switc hed on.
- Make sure t he rea r spoi ler is ret ract ed::::;,
page 160.
- Pull t he @ butto n. The engine compart ment lid opens
slightly .
- Open t he engi ne compartment lid ::::;,

& WARNING
Hot engine coolant can burn you.
To reduce the risk of being burned, never open the engine
compartment lid if you see or hear steam or coolant escaping from
the engine compartment. Wait until no steam or coolant can be
seen or heard before carefully opening the engine compartment
lid .

Working in the engine compartment
Be espec ially caref ul whene ver yo u work in th e engin e
compar tm ent !
Whenever yo u must perform any wo rk in the engine compa rtment,
for exa mple che ckin g and fillin g t he d ifferen t fluids, t here is a risk of
injury, burns and accidents . To prevent persona l injury a lways observe
t he foll ow ing WARNINGS. The eng ine compa rtment of any vehicle is
a hazardous area!

& WARNING
To help avoid injury, before you check anything under the engine
compartment lid:
Switch off the engine.
Remove the ignition key.
Apply the parking brake.
Move selector lever of R tronic to "N" (Neutral); put manual
tran smission in Neutral.
Always let the engine cool down . Hot components will burn
skin on contact .
To reduce the risk of being burned, never open the engine
compartment lid if you see or hear steam or coolant escaping from
the engine compartment . Wait until no steam or coolant can be
seen or heard before carefully opening the engine compartment
lid.
