• Before w inter sets in, have the coolant checked to see if the
coo lant add itive in your vehicle is s ufficient to meet the climate
condi t ions. This is esp ecially impo rtant if yo u live in a region where
the winter is extreme ly cold . If necessary, increase the proportion of
coo lant add itive to 60% .
• Only
Gl2 ++, an additive meeting specification "TL-VW 774G" may
be used as a coolant additive . Other coo lant add itives may seriously
degrade t he corrosion protection. The resu lting damage can cause
loss of coo lant and subsequen t ly lead to serious eng ine damage.
• The coolant additive
Gl2++ must not be m ixed wit h other coolant
add itives .
• Do not add any type of radiato r leak sealant to yo ur vehicle's
eng ine coo la nt. Adding radiator repa ir flu id may adverse ly affect the
function and performance of your cooli ng system a nd could resu lt in
damage not cove red by you r New Vehicle Limited Warranty . •

Proceed carefully when checking the coolan t.

- Switch th e ignit ion off.
- Place a rag or clot h on the cap of t he coolant expansion
ta nk and tu rn t he cap
carefully to t he left (counte r-clock-
wise)

- Read the coolant level inside the coolant expansion tank
=> fig. 121. With a cold engine, it must be above the "min"
mar k. With a hot engine, it can be a little above t he indi-
cated range .
The coolant expansion tank is located on the right s ide of the engine
compartment. Its location ca n be seen in the eng ine compartment
illustration~
page 185.
To obtain an accurate reading, t he engine must be switched off .
The expansion tank in your vehicle is equipped wit h an e lectric coolant
level sensor~
page 33 . We still recommend you check the coolant
level from time to time .
