Cold tire inflation pressure
Tire pressure affects the overall handling, performance and safety of a vehicle.

Tire pressure generally refers to the amount of a ir in a tire that it
needs it to do it s job and safe ly carry the combi ned load of t he en t ire
vehicle and its contents. Tire pressure is measured in kilopasca ls
(kPa), the inte rnationa l measuri ng un it and in pou nds per square inch
(PSI). Tire pressure is based in part on the vehicle's design and load
limit - the greatest amount of weight that the vehicle can carry safe ly
and t he t ire size. The proper tire pressure is frequently refer red to as
the "recommen d ed cold tire inflation pressure ." Air in t he tires
expands when the t ire hea t s up because of inte rnal fr iction whe n it
flexes in use. The tire pressure is higher when the tire has warmed up
t han when it is "cold."
It is t he inflatio n pressu re in a "cold" ti re t ha t
counts. Therefore, you s hou ld
never let air out of a warm t ire to
match "cold t ire inflation pressure" recommenda t ions. The t ires
wou ld then be underinflated and could fail suddenly.

Maintain ing proper tire pressure is one of t he most importa nt thi ngs
you can do to help avoid sudde n t ire fa ilure . Under infl at ed t ires are a
major cause of sudden tire fa ilure . Keeping tires at the right pressure
is a lso important for safe and responsive vehicle hand ling , tractio n,
braking and load carrying.
Tire pressures are particularly important
when the vehicle is being driven at higher speeds, and then espe-
cially when heavily loaded even within the permis sible load·
carrying capacities appro ved for your vehicle .
The recommended tire pressures for your Audi depend on t he kind of
tires on your vehicle and the number of passengers and/or amount of
luggage you will be t ra nspo rting.
The t ire press ure label locat ed on dr iver's side B-pillar on your Audi
