– Remove securing bolts -arrows- and detach air cleaner (top
section).
– Release hose clip -1- and detach air pipe.
– Remove securing bolt -3-.
– Take out filter element.
– Repeat procedure on opposite side.
Step 2 - installing air filter elements:
– Check for dirt in housing and water drains and clean if neces‐
sary ⇒ page 62 .
– Carefully insert new filter elements into grooves -arrows-.
– Fit and tighten securing bolt to specified torque (see table of
tightening torques for installation ⇒ page 61 ).
– Attach air pipes and fit hose clips.
– Place air cleaner (top sections) onto air cleaner (bottom sec‐
tions) without applying any significant force. Ensure that top
and bottom sections of air cleaner are flush.
– Fit securing bolts in air cleaner (top sections) and tighten to
specified torque (see table of tightening torques for installation
⇒ page 61 ).
Continue installation in reverse sequence. Note tightening tor‐
ques (see table of tightening torques for installation ⇒ page 61 ).
3.63.2 Cleaning air cleaner housing
Procedure:
– Remove any loose dirt or leaves out of air cleaner housing (top
and bottom sections).
– Check whether water drain hose in air cleaner (bottom section)
is dirty or blocked and clean if necessary.

When cleaning air cleaner housing with compressed air: Cov‐
er air mass meter with a clean cloth.

On vehicles for cold countries, the snow screen in the intake
section must also be cleaned; see specification in ELSA Main‐
tenance table.
