Brake fluid
Hove the brake fluid changed by an experi-
enced technician .
Brake fluid absorbs moisture from the air. If
the water content in the brake fluid is too
high, corrosion in the brake system may result
after a period of t ime. The boiling point of the
brake fluid w ill also decrease considerably and
decrease braking performance .
Therefore, the brake f luid must be changed
every two years. Always use new brake fluid
which conforms to Federal Motor Vehicle
Standard "FMVSS 116 DOT 4".
Brake fl uid is replaced according to the Audi
maintenance service schedule. Your author-
ized Audi dealer is equipped with the necessa-
ry special tools and replacement parts, has
the necessary expertise, and can dispose of
the used fluid .
.&_ WARNING
- Brake fluid is poisonous. It must be stor-
ed only in the closed orig inal cont ainer
out of t he reach of children!
- Brake f ail ure can result from old or inap-
propr iate brake fluid. Observe these pre-
caut ions:
- Use only brake fluid that meets SAE
specification
J 1703 and confo rms to
Federal Motor Vehicle Standard 116 .
Always check wi t h you r authori zed Aud i
dealer to make sure you are using th e
correct brake f lui d. The correct type of
brake fluid is also indicat ed on the
brake fluid reservoir .
- The brake flui d must be new. Heavy use
of the brakes can cause a vapor lock if
the brake fl uid is left in t he system too
long. This can seriously affect the effi-
ciency of the brakes as well as your
safety. This could result in an accident.
Brake fluid will damage the paint of your
vehicle.
{® For the sake of the environment
Because of the problem of proper disposal
of brake fluid as well as the special too ls
required and the necessary expertise, we
recommend that you have the brake flu id
changed by your autho rized Audi dealer.
Battery
General information
All work on the ba ttery requires technical
knowledge.
The battery is located behind the cover in t he
luggage compa rtment. Remove the cover by
pushing it to the left and lift ing it out.
The battery is practically maintenance-free
and is checked as part of your vehicle's main-
tenance services.
You are well advised to replace a battery that
is older tha n 5 years .
Disconnecting the battery terminals
Some vehicle f unctions (power window regu-
lators, for example) are lost if the battery te r-
mina ls are disconnected. These functions have
to be relearned after the battery termina ls are
connected again. To prevent th is, t he battery
should only be disconnected from the vehicle
elect rical syst em w hen absolutely necessary
f or repair s.
Vehicles not driven for long periods
The battery becomes discharged due to quies-
cent current consume rs even when t he vehicle
is not used. With extended periods of non-use
in t he
cold season, you should have t he vehi-
cle battery removed by an autho rized Audi
dealer or qualif ied workshop and stored in an
frost-free place. This prevents the battery
from "freezing" and thereby being destroyed.
During the
warmer seasons it is enough to
disconnect the battery negat ive terminal. Oc-
casionally charge a disconnected battery.
