to get out . Being trapped in a vehicle can lead to serious personal
injury .
• Never let children play in or around the vehicle.
• Never let passengers ride in the luggage compartment. Vehicl e
occupants must always be properly restrained in one of the
vehicle's seating positions.
(I) Tips
• Air circulation helps to reduce window fogging. Sta le air escapes
to the outs ide through vents in t he trim panel, on the left side of the
luggage compa rtment . Be sure t o keep t hese slo t s free and open.
• The tire press ure must correspond to the load - see the tire pres-
sure st icke r on dr iver's side B-pilla r. •
Tie-downs
The luggage comportment is equipped with four tie-
downs to secure lugga ge and oth er item s.
Use the ti e-downs to secu re your ca rgo properly~ page 113,

In a collision, the laws of physics mean that even sma ller it e ms that
are loose in the vehicle will become heavy missiles that can cause
seriou s injury. Items in t he vehi cle possess e ne rgy which va ry with
vehicle speed and the we ight of the item. Vehicle spee d is the most
signifi cant fac to r.
For example, in a fron t al collis ion at a speed of 30 mph (48 km/h),
the forces acting on a 10-l b (4 .5 kg) object are a bout 20 times t he
normal weig ht of the item . This means that the weight of t he item
wou ld suddenly be a bout 200 lbs. (90 kg). You can imagine the inju-
ries t ha t a 200 lbs. (9 0 kg) item flying free ly t hroug h t he pa ss enge r
compartment could cause in a collision like this.

to the tie-downs in the luggage compartment to help prevent
items from shifting or flying forward as dangerous missiles.
• When the rear seat backrest is folded down, always use suit -
able mounting straps and properly secure item s to the tie-down s
