tiveness or even prevent them from providing any protection .
• An improperly installed child restraint can interfere with the
airbag as it deploy s and serious ly injure or even kill the child -even
with an Advanced Airbag System .
• Always carefully follow the manu facturer 's instructions
provided with the child safety seat or carrier.
• Never place additional items on the seat that can increase the
total weight registered by the weight-sensing mat and can cause
injury in a crash. •
Front airbags
Description of front airbags
The airbag system can provide supplemental protection
to properly restrained front seat occupants.

Your vehicle is equ ipped with an "Advanced Airbag System" in compli-
ance with United States Federal Moto r Vehicle Safety Standard
(FMVSS) 208 as applicable at the time you r veh icle was ma nufac-
t ured . The safety be lts for the front seats have "pr etensioners" that
help to take s lack out of the be lt system. The pret ensioners are a lso
activated by the electronic control unit for the airbag system.
The front safe ty be lts also have load limit ers to help red uce t he forces
applied to the body in a crash.
The airbag for the dr iver is in the steering whee l hub => fig . 108 and
the airbag fo r the front passenger is in the instrument panel
=> fig. 109 . The general location of the airbags is marked "AIRBAG".
There is a lot you need t o know abou t t he air bags in your vehicle. We
urge you to read the deta iled information about airbags, safety be lts
and child safety in this and t he ot her chapters that make up the
owner's literature . Please be sure to heed the WARNINGS - they are
extremely importa nt fo r your safety a nd the safety of your passen -
gers, especially infants a nd small children .
