AIR BAG OFF light will come on and stay on
whenever
the igniti on is on.
A WARNING
An airbag system that is not funct io ni ng prop-
er ly cannot provide supplemental pr otection
in a frontal crash.

comes when the vehicle is being u se d, have
t he
system inspect ed immediate ly by your
aut horized Aud i de al er. It is possible t h at
t he airbag will inf l ate when it is n ot sup-
posed to, or will n ot in fl at e whe n it shoul d.
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light

The PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light is located in
the overh ead console c::> fig . 158 .
The PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light will come on
and stay on to tell you when t he front Advanced
Airbag on
the passenger side has been turned off
by the electronic control unit. If the bulb for t he
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF li ght burns out, t he
ai rbag in di cator light fB will come on to sign al a
mal func ti on in t he Adv an ce d Airbag System. A l-
t hough the bu rned-out bulb will n ot chan ge th e
way
the front passenger's fron tal airbag works, it
will no l
onger be poss ible to u se the PASSENGER
AIR
BAG OFF light to make sure that the airbag
on/of f status is correct f or the occupant on the
front passenger seat. Have the airbag system in-
spected immediately by your au thorized Audi
dea ler.
The PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light will blink
for about
S seconds when:
- the ignition is switched on and
200
- the capacitive p assenger detec tion system,
which switches the front seat passenger's fron-
tal Advanced Airbag on and off, detects a
change in the status of the front passenger
seat .
As soon as the PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light
stops blinking, always ma ke sure that the airbag
status (on or off} as shown by the PASSENGER
AIR BAG OFF lig ht is p roper for the age, size and
electr i cal capacitance of the perso n occupying
t he
fron t passe n ger seat . Al ways make su re t h at
t he safety belt for the fron t passe n ger seat is
prope r ly faste ned.
The PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light will show
the status
of the front seat passenger's frontal
Advanced Airbag a
few seconds after the igni-
tion is switched on and the airbag indicator
light goes off . The PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF
light :
- will stay on if the fron t passeng er se at is not
occupied;
- will
stay on if the el ectr ical capacit ance meas -
ured by t he capacit ive pass e nger d etection sys-
t
em for the front passenge r s ea t equa ls t he
c
omb in ed cap acitance of an i nf ant up to about
one year of age and one of the rea rward-fa ci ng
or forwar d-facing child r est r aints li sted in Fed-
eral Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 208 with
which
the Advanced Airbag System in your vehi-
cle was
cert ified; For a li sting of the ch il d re-
strain ts t h at we re used to certify your vehicle's
comp li an ce wi th the U.S. Saf ety St andard
c::> poge 214 .

pied by an adult

- The PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light must come
on and
stay on if the ignition is on and ...
- a car bed
has been installed on the front pas -
senge r sea t , or
- a rear wa rd-facing child restraint h as been in -
stalled on the front passenger seat, or
- a forward-facing child
restraint has been i nsta l-
led on
the front passenger seat,
- and if the electrical capacitance registered on
the front passenge r seat is equal to or l ess t h an ..,.
