6. Perform the appropriate procedure to configure the email, pager or SNMP trap notification:

Administration - Notifications - Serial ports alarm
An administrator can configure the console server to monitor the DCD signal so that an alarm is
generated if either of the following events occurs.
• A serial console cable is removed from the console server
• A device/server attached to the console is turned off
The administrator can also configure the console server to detect if a modem is in use and is still
turned on and active.
To configure a trigger for serial port alarm notification [Expert]:
1. Select Exp
ert - Administration - Notifications. The Notifications screen appears.
2. Enable the checkbox for Notification Alarm for Data Buffering.
3. Select Email, Pager or SNMP Trap from the pull-down menu.
4. Click the Add button.
5. Enter
Port in the Alarm Trigger field.
6. Configure the rest of the parameters based on the option selected in step 3.
7. Click OK.
8. Click apply changes.
Administration - Notifications - Email
If an administrator selects Expert - Administration - Notifications, selects Email from the pull-down
menu and clicks Add or Edit, the Email Notifications Add/Edit dialog box appears.

Field Name Definition
Alarm Trigger The trigger expression used to generate an alarm.
[untitled drop-down field] The first time you specify an alarm trigger the pull-down menu is empty. A
new trigger is listed in the menu after it is created.
To/From/Subject/Body The email for the designated recipient of the alarm notification.
SMTP Server IP The IP address of the SMTP server.
SMTP Port The port used by the SMTP server.
