Connect Devices to Serial Ports
Use RJ-45 to DB-9 CAT 5 crossover cables to connect the console port of each device to the serial
port.
NOTE: Turn on the power switches of the connected devices only after you have completed the physical
connection to the console server.
Make a Direct Connection to Configure Network Parameters
To connect a computer or terminal to the console port:
1. Connect a CAT 5 straight-through cable with RJ-45 connectors to an appropriate adaptor
(supplied). Adaptors have an RJ-45 connector on one end and either a DB-25 or DB-9 male or
female connector on the other end.
2. Connect the RJ-45 end of the cable to the Console port on the console server.
3. Connect the adaptor end of the cable to a terminal or a computer that has a terminal emulator.
4. Make sure the terminal settings are 9600 bps, 8, None, 1 and None.
Turn Power On
Perform the following procedure in the order shown to avoid problems with components on
connected devices.
To tun on power for the console server:
1. Make sure the power is turned off on the console server and connected devices.
2. Plug the power cable into the console server and into a power source.
3. Turn the console server power switch on.
4. Turn on the power switches of the connected devices.
Perform Basic Network Configuration using the wiz Command
The following procedure assumes that a hardware connection exists between the console port and
either a terminal or computer with a terminal emulator.
