This document describes the 866498 (RC-DCF) device, a radio-controlled clock with temperature display and an outdoor sensor.

Function Description

The device primarily functions as a radio-controlled clock, automatically synchronizing with the DCF time signal. It displays the current time, date, day of the week, indoor temperature, and outdoor temperature. It also includes daily alarm and snooze functions, as well as a temperature alert feature for the outdoor sensor.

Getting Started:

Main Unit: Open battery compartment [C2], insert 4 x AA batteries observing polarity, replace cover. Press the RESET [B7] button with a pin.
Outdoor Thermo Sensor: Unscrew and open battery compartment (D3), insert 2 x AAA batteries observing polarity.

Installation:

Main Unit: Can be placed on any flat surface using the stand (C3) or wall-mounted using the hanging hole (C1).
Outdoor Thermo Sensor: Should be securely mounted onto a horizontal surface. Avoid direct sunlight and rain. The transmission range is up to 100m in open areas without interfering obstacles like buildings, trees, vehicles, or high voltage lines.

RF Transmission:

The main unit automatically starts receiving outdoor temperature transmission after battery insertion, indicated by a flashing RF icon on the LCD.
If transmission fails within the first 3 minutes, "- - . -" will be displayed.
To manually receive transmission, hold the "SEARCH" button (B6) for 3 seconds.
Select Celsius or Fahrenheit mode for the thermo sensor by pressing the "C/F" button (D4) on the sensor unit.
Note: Buttons will not function during thermo sensor signal scanning unless the signal is well received or scanning is stopped manually.

Time and Alarm Setting:

Radio Controlled Clock: After battery insertion and initial outdoor sensor transmission, the clock automatically scans for the DCF time signal, indicated by a flashing icon.
- A flashing icon means it's receiving the signal.
- A solid icon means the signal was successfully received.
- No icon means reception failed.
- The clock automatically scans daily at 3:00 a.m. If reception fails, it retries at 4:00 a.m., 5:00 a.m., and 6:00 a.m.
- Manual scanning can be initiated by holding the "-" button (B5) for 3 seconds. Each reception attempt takes about 5 minutes.
- Stop scanning by holding the "-" button (B5) for 3 seconds.
- "DST" on the LCD indicates Daylight Saving Time Mode.
- Note: Buttons will not function during DCF time signal scanning unless the signal is well received or scanning is stopped manually.
Manual Time Setting:
- In time display mode, hold "MODE" button (B1) for 3 seconds to enter Clock/Calendar setting Mode.
- Use "+" (B4) or "-" (B5) buttons to adjust settings and "MODE" button (B1) to confirm. Holding the buttons accelerates the adjustment.
- Setting sequence: Hour, Minute, Second, Year, Month/Day, Month, Date, Weekday Language, Time Zone.
- Weekday language options: German, English, French, Italian, Dutch, Spanish, Denmark, Russian (abbreviations provided in table).
- Note: All setting modes automatically exit after 15 seconds of inactivity. If no RC-DCF signal is received, the Time Zone should be set to 0. Time Zone is for countries receiving DCF but with a different time zone (e.g., GMT+1).
Daily Alarm Function:
- Press "MODE" button (B1) to view alarm time ("AL" displayed).
- Hold "MODE" button (B1) for 3 seconds to enter alarm time setting.
- Use "+" (B4) or "-" (B5) buttons to adjust, and "MODE" button (B1) to confirm.
- Press "ALARM" button (B3) to activate/deactivate the alarm (alarm icon appears when active).
- When the alarm sounds, press any button to stop it. Otherwise, it stops automatically after about 2 minutes.
Snooze Alarm Function:
- Press "SNOOZE" (B2) button when the alarm sounds. The alarm snoozes for 5 minutes and then alerts again. "ZZ" flashes during snooze time. This can be repeated 7 times.
- Any button except "SNOOZE" (B2) will stop the snooze alarm.
12/24 Hour Display Mode: Press "12/24" (B4) button to select 12 or 24 hours mode.

Thermometer:

Temperature Display: Press "°C/°F" (B5) button to select Celsius or Fahrenheit mode.
If temperature is out of range, "LL.L" (below minimum) or "HH.H" (above maximum) will be displayed.
Temperature Alert Function:
- Press "ALERT" button (B8) to activate/deactivate the Outdoor Temperature Alert function (alert icon appears when active).
- Hold "ALERT" button (B8) for 3 seconds to enter alert setting. The upper limit icon flashes.
- Use "+" (B4) or "-" (B5) buttons to set the upper and lower limits.
- Press "ALERT" button (B8) to confirm.

Low Battery Indication:

A low battery icon appears next to the outdoor temperature, indicating the thermo sensor batteries are low and should be replaced.

Maintenance Features

Precautions:

If the unit does not work properly, press the RESET button (B7) with a pin.
All setting modes automatically exit after 15 seconds of inactivity.
The clock loses time information if batteries are removed.
Avoid placing the clock near interference sources/metal frames (e.g., computers, TVs).
Do not expose to direct sunlight, heavy heat, cold, high humidity, or wet areas.
The outdoor sensor must not be installed underwater. Install it away from direct sunlight and rain.
Do not clean the device with abrasive or corrosive materials/products, as they can scratch plastic parts and corrode electronic circuits.

Disposal at End of Working Life:

Discarded appliances and electronic devices contain valuable materials and should not be thrown away with household waste.
Hand them in to the store where purchased or to a local council recycling depot.
This product must be disposed of separately according to waste guidelines for electrical and electronic equipment.
Empty batteries should be deposited in special battery boxes or handed in as domestic chemical waste at a municipal depot.
