The PW-150 v5.1 is an intercom system designed for public safety and stealth armored vehicles. It facilitates communication and provides siren functions, making it a versatile tool for various operational needs.
Function Description:
The system primarily functions as an intercom, allowing communication within the vehicle and with the exterior. It integrates siren capabilities with multiple tones for public safety applications. The main components include an electronic unit, a control keyboard with an internal microphone, a 150W loudspeaker, external microphones, internal speakers, and various harnesses and cables for installation.
The intercom function, activated by the "INTER" button, allows users to hear external sounds through the internal speakers. If no activity is detected for 5 minutes, the INTER function automatically turns off (Automatic Shut Down, ASD) to conserve energy.
The Public Address (PA) function, activated by the "PTT" button on the control keyboard or the optional handheld microphone, enables the driver to communicate with the exterior. For more private communication (lower external volume), PTT can be used while INTER is active. For louder external communication, PTT can be used while SIREN, AUX SIREN, or stand-by (INTER off) is active. Both volumes are configurable via the keyboard.
The system includes siren functions with various tones: WAIL, HORN, SIREN, and AUX SIREN. The "WAIL" and "HORN" buttons activate their respective siren tones. The "SIREN" button activates the selected SIREN tone. The "AUX" button can activate either the "AUX SIREN" tone or an auxiliary load, depending on its assignment. When an auxiliary load is active, the keyboard light flashes once every 2 seconds.
The system also features a second siren function, "SIREN 2," which can be controlled via the optional handheld microphone. SIREN 2 offers 5 different tones (WAIL, Hi-Lo, PHASER, CHIRP, and YELP), independent of the other siren settings.
Important Technical Specifications:
- Electronic Unit: 37 H x 109 W x 198 D mm (1.5" H x 4.3" W x 7.8" D)
- Loudspeaker: 182 H x 165 W x 87 D mm (7.1" H x 6.4" W x 3.4" D)
- Keyboard Control: 25 H x 7 W x 54 D mm (1.0" H x 0.3" W x 2.1" D)
- Internal Speakers: 80 H x 56 W x 95 D mm (3.2" H x 2.2" W x 3.7" D)
- Input Voltage: 11.5 - 14.8 VDC
- Input Current: PW-150: 13 Amps @ 13.6 VDC
- Standby Current: <25 mA
- Audio Frequency: 330Hz - 5600 kHz
- Output Power: PW-150: 142W RMS - 8 Ohm
- Siren Frequency: 440 - 1750 Hz
- Low Voltage Shutdown: If voltage drops below 11 V for 60 seconds or longer, the equipment will cease to work and resume operation when the system voltage is above 13V.
- Max. Auxiliary Load: 10 A
Usage Features:
The system is controlled via a six-button digital keyboard.
- Volume Adjustment: Internal speaker volume can be increased by holding INTER and pressing WAIL, and decreased by holding INTER and pressing HORN. External loudspeaker volume can be increased by holding PTT and pressing WAIL, and decreased by holding PTT and pressing HORN.
- External Volume Auto-Adjustment (VAA): This feature automatically adjusts the maximum external volume based on the vehicle's acoustic isolation. To perform VAA, all doors and windows must be closed. The procedure involves holding PTT, then pressing INTER, and releasing both upon hearing a beep. The equipment will beep twice when VAA is finalized. This process can be canceled at any time by pressing PTT.
- Siren Tone Selection: The SIREN tone can be changed by pressing and holding the SIREN button. The AUX SIREN tone can be changed by pressing and holding the AUX button. SIREN 2 tones are selected by pressing and holding the SIREN 2 button on the handheld microphone.
- Auxiliary Load Configuration: The AUX button can be configured to activate either an auxiliary siren tone or an auxiliary load up to 15 Amps. This is done by holding AUX and pressing SIREN.
- Backlight Keyboard Configuration: The keyboard backlight has two modes:
- Mode 1: Backlights whenever a function is running or when the supply voltage is high.
- Mode 2: Backlights only when a button is pressed.
To switch between modes, hold INTER, then press and hold SIREN for 5 seconds until a beep sounds.
- Automatic Feedback Control (AFC): If acoustic feedback occurs while PTT or INTER are active (e.g., due to an open door or window), the system automatically detects and corrects the issue by lowering the volume. After the event, the system attempts to restore the volume to the user-defined level, provided AFC is not triggered again.
Maintenance Features:
- Energy Saving Features (Automatic Shut Down, ASD):
- Partial Shut Down (PSD): If the input voltage drops below 13 VDC, after 20 seconds of inactivity, the keyboard backlights turn off. In PSD mode, pressing any button reactivates the respective function and returns the equipment to normal energy consumption.
- Total Shut Down (TSD): If the input voltage drops below 11 VDC, after 60 seconds, the equipment shuts down all functions and auxiliary loads. In TSD mode, the keyboard backlights turn off, and pressing any button will cause the backlights to blink 3 times without executing the controlled function. The equipment returns to normal operation once the voltage exceeds 12.5 VDC.
- Cleaning: The digital keyboard should be gently wiped with a dry cloth. Do not use water or any solvents.
- Wiring Precautions: During installation, wires should be handled gently to prevent internal damage. Avoid placing wires near noise sources like alternators or high tension wires. Disconnected cables should be insulated to prevent malfunctions. Loudspeaker terminals should not be manipulated.
- Warranty: B&G Electronics offers a limited warranty against manufacturing defects. The warranty does not cover damage caused by mishandling, improper installation, fungible components, or damage due to the use of the product in conjunction with other products or accessories not designed by B&G Electronics.
