GLOSSARY
DVI
Digital Visual Interface is a dis play interface developed in response to the proliferation of digital at p anel displays.
The digital video c onnectivity standard that was dev eloped by DDW G (Digital D isplay Work Group). This connection standard offers
two different connectors: one with 24 pins that handles digital video signals only, and one with 29 pins that hand les both digital
and analog video. This s tandard uses TM DS (Transition Minimize d Differential Signal) from Silicon Image and DDC ( Display Data
Channel) from V ES A (Video E lectronics S tandards As sociation).
DVI can be single or dual link.
RS232
An Electronic Industries Association (EIA) serial digital interface standard specifying the
characteristics of the communication path
between two devices us ing either D-SU B 9 pins or D-SU B 25 pins connectors. This standard is used for relatively short-range
communications and does not specify balanced control lines. R S-232 is a serial control s tandard with a s et number of conductors,
data rate, word length and type of connector to be used. The standard species component c
onnection standards with regard to
computer interface. It is also called RS-232-C, which is the third version of the R S-232 standard, and is functionally identical to the
CCITT V.24 standard. Logical ’0’ is > + 3V, Logical ’1’ is < - 3V. The range b etween -3V and +3V is the transition zone.
Scheimpug principle
The "plane of sharp focus" can be changed so that any plane can be brought into sharp focus. When the DMD plane and lens plane
are parallel, the plane of sha rp focus will also be parallel to these two planes. If, however, the lens plane is tilted with respect to the
DMD plane, the plane of sharp f ocus will also be tilted accor
ding to geometrical and optical properties. T he DMD plane, the principal
lens plane and the sharp focus plane will intersect in a line below the projector for downward lens tilt.
SMPTE
Society of Motion P icture and Telev ision Engineers - A glo
bal organization, based in the U nited States, that sets s tandards for
baseband visual communications. This includes lm as we ll video standards.
